Anything short of a natty now will be viewed as an epic failure.
The one issue is can kim control the attitudes/egos of the players because there are some huge ones on her team now
Will be interesting. Can the biggest cache of talent on a single roster override any chemistry issues that might emerge with so many egos.
Just when it somewhat seemed like gap between the haves and have-nots was narrowing say hello to the transfer portal which has turned that narrowing gap into the Grand Canyon.
The talent gap in women's basketball is vastly different than the men's game. A team loading up like LSU just did its going to take an epic meltdown for them not to win the national title as there maybe are 6-8 teams a year that have a legit shot to compete for a national title on the women's side. Usually the same programs most years too. The men's game still has some blue blood schools that are in the running most years too but there are a lot more schools in the field that have the ability to make a run as there is not such a huge drop off in talent level of lower seeded teams like there is in the women's tournament
Yes, Louisiana is a very wealthy state (no not really, in many ways to measure is near the bottom 1/5). Or at least they have the resources to put them where they need them (no not really, they are a state rated as dependent on Federal Resources). So what is LSU's secret?

There are places where people tie their own self-worth/self-esteem to the local collegiate sports team.
There are also places where people have "ego money" to throw around.
The SEC has both groups in spades.
If Mulkey can keep all the egos satisfied then congratulations on building a fully operational Death Star.
They are the only P5 school in the state, have a rabid fanbase that doesn't care about academics for their student athletes, have a lot of oil money and some rich lawyers with deep pockets.
agreed. If she keeps them altogether w/good chemistry I think it actually adds to her accolades, like her or not.
Doesn't hurt that the #1 HS player in the country for the 2023 class is from Louisiana. With Mulkey at the helm there was almost no way she was going anywhere but Baton Rogue.
She's a coach that rivals love to hate but it's interesting to see how she, decidedly old school in many ways, has adapted to the new recruiting landscape and roster building.
the only consolation of this LSU situation is hopefully they will prevent the Hoks from winning the championship next year.
Having nearly unlimited funding does wonders in this environment...and she has it.
