***WBB: CYCLONE 2023 Recruiting Thread***

Interesting name added to the list: Payton Verhulst, who is transferring from Louisville. She was a big-time recruit in 2021 (ESPN #12 overall) and made the ACC all-freshman team last season despite only playing 11 mpg. She'd only been averaging 15 mpg this season. Louisville message board seems to think their team has internal issues of some sort, and they seem pretty bummed Payton is leaving (and they don't understand why she isn't getting more minutes).
So she is transferring mid season, regardless of where she ends up, will she be eligible after first semester next year or is she eligible at the beginning of the season? Thanks in advance for info.

She will be eligible at the beginning of next season, since everyone gets one free transfer without sitting out.

There is a tweet out there saying she has three seasons left, but that's not true -- she played last year and this year, and both were after the 2020-21 free covid year, so she has two seasons left.

(Unless she mysteriously got hurt and couldn't play the rest of the season and took a medical redshirt -- because she's under the 30% limit -- but I'm not sure how that would work with a mid-season transfer.)

Per the Boneyard forum thread on this her finalists in 2020 were Mizzou, Oregon, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Stanford, Oregon St., UConn, and AZ State. Since she didn't exactly light it up at Louisville I wonder if some on that list would still be interested or if she'd want to transfer home to the Midwest, maybe team up with the young players at KSU with Lee back.

They can always "find" some medical problem to facilitate a redshirt year. It's happened before, it will happen again.

I was curious as to how our highly touted Class of 2023 was doing early in the HS senior season.

Addy Brown - Derby, KS - 5-1 - 20.2 pts/ g, 8.9 rbs / game, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals. On 12/2, Derby lost to a team from Overland Park and she was held to 8 points.

What’s the best way to track these teams and young women? I used Maxpreps for the Addy Brown stats and it’s cumbersome!

Season updates for ISU signees:

Audi Crooks: 30.2 ppg (75% FG), 13.8 rpg, 2.9 apg, 2.4 bpg. With only 1.8 to/g, her a/to ratio is 1.7. She is 0-6 behind the arc, so there's something to work on. :) Garrigan is #1 in class 1A: they went 1-1 in an event in the Twin Cities to start the season, and they haven't won by less than 30 since returning to Iowa.

Arianna Jackson: 19.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 2.8 apg, 3.8 spg all lead Roosevelt. Roosevelt is 10-7 and unranked in 5A.

Kelsey Joens: 23.7 ppg, 12.2 rpg, 3.7 apg, 4.0 spg, 1.0 bpg all lead West Liberty. West Liberty is 10-5 and unranked in 3A.

Iowa GBB stats are here: https://www.gobound.com/ia/ighsau/girlsbasketball/2022-23/leaders

I think MaxPreps is the only option for Brown, unfortunately.

Addy Brown: Derby is now 8-1 and #2 in Class 6A West. Brown's 20.2 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.1 bpg all lead Derby.

Jalynn Bristow: I can't find a good stats source for Bristow. She has multiple 30+ point games (per twitter) and her Holliday team is 23-3.

Your timing is exquisite - I was messing around this morning and tried to find Bristol stats - couldn’t find any stats but lots of video clips. Anybody know why she switched schools? I only viewed two clips, but Holliday appears to be a smaller school and the competition level is not high. I know her club experience carries more weight, but test yourself against better competition!

I'm a bit surprised to be adding names of non-transfers this late in the recruiting season, but I did indeed just add one: Mallory Miller.

Curious, made me look. She sure is getting a lot of late buzz and offers.

Her sister (JC) and her both have offers from Arizona State this week. She just got an offer from Tennessee this week, also Wisconsin but they sort of suck in WBB and aren't anything like a Volunteer offer. Also Louisville, New Mexico, Syracuse and Colorado offers. They visited New Mexico together this week, she has an offer there also. Seems they are at least entertaining the idea of playing together somewhere.
