***WBB: 2024 Recruiting Thread***

Any word on how Aili Tanke and her team are doing?
As of a week ago Johnston was #1 in 5A per IGSHAU, although they did lose a game since then. New rankings will come out today.

She's averaging 15.9 ppg and 9.1 rpg, leading Johnston in both categories. They have three players averaging over 12 ppg, including top 2026 recruit Jenica Lewis at 12.2.

Notably, Tanke is at 50% (45/90) behind the arc. Nearly half of her FGA are behind the arc, and she's making the most of that.

I've updated my roster spreadsheet with Reagan's verbal. Note that if there are no transfers and all COVID players take their extra year, the 24-25 roster is full. That includes four players: Zingaro (who would almost certainly take it since she was an early enrollee specifically because of that rule) plus Ryan, Donarski, and Diew, who would all be very welcome to stay an extra year as well.

The 23-24 roster appears full as well, but Kane is on record saying she's not planning to take a COVID year at ISU, as she was a redshirt her first session so she's already been here five years. That does open up a spot for a one-and-done transfer next season, which has worked out for us very well in recent years -- Soares pre-injury, Nezerwa (which became two years after a waiver), Middleton, Bowe. Plus Jordao, who was supposed to be two years but got cut to one due to injury

Checked her out on her Twitter, lots of offers from mid-majors. Hoping this is diamond in the rough. Watching some highlights, she has grit and reminds me of a combo of Em and Danae.

A lot of grit, skill, speed, quickness, high bb IQ, and determination to overcome what is apparently a lack of height. I was hoping for the best but several sites list her as less than 5'6" and Prospect Nation has her at 5'5".

ISU commit updates:

Aili Tanke: 15.3 ppg and 8.9 rpg, leading Johnston in both categories. They have three players averaging over 12 ppg, including top 2026 recruit Jenica Lewis at 12.6. Johnston won their first regional tournament game 73-27. Tanke had a efficient 11 points (3-6 3pt, 1-1 2pt) on a very balanced scoring attack: 7 players had between 6 and 12 points. Johnston faces Sioux City East in the regional final tonight (2/21) at 7pm.

The article from the DSM Register gave 5'8" as Reagan Wilson's current height.
That Prospects Nation page for her seems to be from her summer 2020 info, so it's a few inches shorter.

Maybe, but most girls reach their max height by age 14-15. And even at that 5'8 on the lesser side. Ailie Tanke too is at that height and in HS it may work but the added dimensions of competition in D-1 make it tough.

5'8" is not on the lesser side of point guards at Iowa State's competition level, nor is it an indicator of a disadvantage.

These are the heights listed on each respective team's website for their roster of the shortest starting player on each of the Big 12 teams this year. Also of note, some teams have multiple starting guards below 5'8".
K State has tall guards, and Emily is of course listed at 5'11.
6', 5'11", 5'9", 5'7", 5'7", 5'6", 5'7", 5'5", 5'5", 5'3"

Let's say that starting guards does not equal quality guards.

Here are the heights of the 2021-22 year 1st and 2nd team guards.
The two shortest players were on Baylor, and they won the conference last year. The tallest guards would be Vivian Gray and Lexi.
6'1", 6'0", 5'11", 5'11", 5'9", 5'8", 5'7", 5'6"
