Wayne Morgan to Iowa?

I am making personal assumptions based on what I have seen out of both programs, is that ok? I never said my assumptions were empirical fact, just inferences based on what I've seen... As of now, I think that Iowa is headed in a much better direction that us, and now Wayne apparently is a part of that. As of now, I also think our program is headed into further dispair. My opinion, and yes, they are based on assumptions, inferences, and predictions.

So Iowa hires a new coach and suddenly they have pulled a complete 180 and are now headed in the right direction? The new coach has been there for what, a week? Good grief.

Was Wayne that great of a recruiter? He was good but great?

Will Blalock
Reggie George
Curtis Stinson
Damion Staple

Solid class. Also committed while Larry was still here. Sure Wayne was the head recruiter but some of the credit does go to Larry

Aaron Agnew
Tasheed Carr
Ivan Chiriaev
Rahshon Clark
Anthony Davis
Robert Faulkner

3 of those guys never really even played. Davis and Carr were ok players at ISU but far from great. Clark was a great player for us

Farnold Degand
Mike Evanovich
Jessan Gray
Jiri Hubalek
Kellen Lee
Ross Marsden
Shawn Taggert

Only Taggert could be considered a great player in that group

There is more than enough talent there to make us competitive in the Big 12. Stinson, Blaylock, Clark, Hubalek, Taggert, Degand, Carr and Davis are better athletes to compete in the Big 12 with than anyone (save Brackins, Gilstrap and WJ) than anyone Greg brought in.

I think they are headed in the right direction simply because they realized a failing model, and did something about it. He may end up not being better than Lick, but Lick's model wasn't working, and they made a change in philosophy...so as of now, yes they are headed in a much better direction than they were before.

I like Wayne, would love to see him get back into coaching. He would be a high quality assistant for almost anybody to have. Would be a slam dunk hire for a program like Iowa.

Like I said "good" recruiter but not great

I always find it interesting that the same people who argue that Hamilton, with his under 5 rebounds a game, is going to be an elite big 12 center, also rag on all the players who leave as if they never did anything.. Tasheed Carr.. beat Texas by himself in OT, was a valuable guy off the bench that year. Degand was starting for an NC state team that did far better than ISU this season.. Hubalek and Taggart were both solid pieces. Just because people call Wayne Morgan an "excellent recruiter", doesn't mean he needs to go get the Kevin Durants and John Walls of the world to justify the title

Define strong...
Year one we were an NIT team, year two we were a 9-seed in the NCAA Tourney that for all purposes sneak into the tournament as we were "outside bubble" for most of the year, and year three we go from preseason top 25 to really bad season punctuated with an overblown scheduling scam and APR issues that saw us losing scholarships. And his record got progressively worse each year at ISU.

Better than we have now? I'll give you that. But strong???
We lost to the eventual national champs in the second round!

Did you post this after Davis/Alford left as well?
All that can be said is they are headed in a different direction.

And we barely beat a very overrated Minnesota team to get there...

Wow - excellent point, with that kind of record, please remind me again why Jamie fired Wayne Morgan and his entire staff?

What record?
You would actually base the decision of three games over three years? Of course not. But hey, any attempt to bash ISU athletics, even if illogical, is worth it.

When you are as hopelessly bad as Iowa was this year, a different direction is a good direction. It was a failed model, with little to no returning talent ot get better with. A change in philosophy, and a change in personnel can't hurt at that point, and as such, yes I think they are in going in the right direction.

In my opinion, I would rather by taking a chance than lying stagnant like I feel we are.
