Wayne Morgan to Iowa?

crap. possibility competent coaching with morgan's recruiting... 4th best program in the state, here we come!

Imagine the look on Jamie's face, sitting in Hilton, watching Wayne Morgan's athletes pound Greg McDermott's clodhoppers like a Veal Cutlet.

Well, if these "athletes" are anything like Mike Evanovich, Ross Marsden, or Aaron Agnew, or hell, even Shawn Taggert, I think we'll be OK. And yes, I am saying Shawn Taggert was not a great athlete.

Was Wayne that great of a recruiter? He was good but great?

Will Blalock
Reggie George
Curtis Stinson
Damion Staple

Solid class. Also committed while Larry was still here. Sure Wayne was the head recruiter but some of the credit does go to Larry

Aaron Agnew
Tasheed Carr
Ivan Chiriaev
Rahshon Clark
Anthony Davis
Robert Faulkner

3 of those guys never really even played. Davis and Carr were ok players at ISU but far from great. Clark was a great player for us

Farnold Degand
Mike Evanovich
Jessan Gray
Jiri Hubalek
Kellen Lee
Ross Marsden
Shawn Taggert

Only Taggert could be considered a great player in that group

I honestly wouldn't be all that upset about it. His recruiting was never the issue - his coaching ability was. And considering Morgan was hired only to be a filler in the first place, had we brought in a significantly better coach I doubt he would have taken the significant cut in pay to be that coach's recruiter.

In the 3 previous matchups of Wayne's "athletes" vs. Greg's "clodhoppers", here's how Wayne fared:

1) won by 3
2) lost by 17
3) won by 7

Yeah, those are some real poundings Wayne dished out.
Haha, i won't go quite as far as that. I still have faint hope for Mac, and love for ISU, but Go2Guy's assumption would hinge on Morgan not coaching, just recruiting...

I hate this. It will suck watching our former head coach helping another program go in the right direction, while Iowa State continues in the complete wrong direction. Ugh.

You are making assumptions about events that have not transpired.

He would also institute the 2-3 zone that kept us strong throughout his years at ISU.

Define strong...
Year one we were an NIT team, year two we were a 9-seed in the NCAA Tourney that for all purposes sneak into the tournament as we were "outside bubble" for most of the year, and year three we go from preseason top 25 to really bad season punctuated with an overblown scheduling scam and APR issues that saw us losing scholarships. And his record got progressively worse each year at ISU.

Better than we have now? I'll give you that. But strong???

This could be very bad.

I quoted this because I think you left out P'Allen Stinnet, didn't you (maybe a couple more)??

I am making personal assumptions based on what I have seen out of both programs, is that ok? I never said my assumptions were empirical fact, just inferences based on what I've seen... As of now, I think that Iowa is headed in a much better direction that us, and now Wayne apparently is a part of that. As of now, I also think our program is headed into further dispair. My opinion, and yes, they are based on assumptions, inferences, and predictions.

No. He wasn't great. The fact that I am seeing "excellent" recruiter and WM in the same sentence really, really baffles me. He brought in some solid guys, like all coaches do, but certainly wasn't a 5 star recruiter.

His first team, which won 20 games (which, IMO, was disappointing considering the makeup of that team) played 4 significant players that Wayne didn't recruit; Homan, Vroman, Sullivan, and Jefferson. (And people can talk about Will and Curt all they want; fact is, Larry does deserve some of that credit. It's part of being the head coach, sealing the deal. He drove out to the east coast to watch Curtis play. Curtis was quoted saying this meant a lot to him.)

His second team was fun to watch when, and only when, they kicked it in the a$$ and went on a hot streak.

His 3rd team blew. I care more about what's in my turds than that team cared about Iowa State basketball.

And no, Taggart was NEVER great, and certainly never lived up to the hype. He put up solid numbers for a LOADED Memphis team. He didn't have to hustle or play defense. Great guards got him the ball in easy places.

I detect a faint hint of sarcasm in UNIGuy's post.

All this "athlete" talk bothers me also. As much as I ***** about Greg, he's brought in some of the best "athletes" that we've had in our MBB program in the last 20 years.

Wes
Mike T
Brackins
Quez

Hell, even Dendy and Colvin are dam good pure athletes...

Wow - excellent point, with that kind of record, please remind me again why Jamie fired Wayne Morgan and his entire staff?
