WARNING: football uniform thread!

Because it is annoying me that there are uniform threads every month of people demanding that we change our uniform again for the 29340th time in our school history.

Comprende?

I would like to direct you to the title of the thread. What did you think it was going to be about? No one demanded anything. I am sick of people complaining about topics on a message board. I don't run around looking at threads I don't care about or that I know will infuriate me because I know better. Also, in your comparisons they were all comparisons between college and pro teams. We look exactly like another college team. I don't like that but I don't mind the uniforms.

Yellow helmets are ugly. Why make it a dominant color? And yes LSU's uniforms are ugly. They just have been successful so people don't mind them.

At most put a yellow stripe down the middle of the helmet. If not that, don't touch them. This is the first year in a long time that no one I know has made fun of ISU's uniforms.

Leave them alone.

I'd settle for that. Just one yellow stripe would differentiate us from USC A LITTLE. I'd still prefer white between the shoulder and pants stripes, but a gold helmet stripe would be good enough. And cheap. Not the total overhaul where everyone is complaining that we change every other year. We keep continuity, we keep the image and message the same. We just tweek it enough to make our own identity and not one just like of of the most recognizeable programs in the country.

Stop complaining that we look like USC. Iowa looks like the Steelers, Kansas looks like the Giants, Duke looks like the Colts. Who cares. Lets let it rest. Just. Win. That is all that matters.

I guess my problem is that all of those are PRO teams. Even though I think it is slightly tacky, the teams they are emulating are still at a different level. I can't think of two other BCS teams that look as alike as ISU and USC. We had conference opponents making fun of the similarity in the preseason media days this year. I just think that with a few minor changes, all of that goes away.

I will say that the road unis are awesome. But if they ever start wearing gold pants, all of that is down the drain.

I'm sorry, it's late and I'm bored.

I can - Indiana, Stanford, Oklahoma and Alabama look almost exactly alike. So do Pitt and Notre Dame. As well as Wisconsin and Nebraska. Not to mention Illinois and OSU (if you switch up the blue for black). And of course Iowa and the Steelers...

In fact, I'd say all of those schools look like their matches more than we look like USC. We went back to a traditional ISU-style uniform. So it looks a little like USC's. Seriously, only a particular few vocal xenophobic ISU fans really even give two ****s that our uniforms resemble USC's...

Well, if you ask me, Pitt and ND look different because first off Pitt has a logo on the helmet and ND does not. Plus, Pitt uses a lighter shade of gold (less metallic?) for their pants. And IL/OSU, blue and black ARE different. I think that Stanford has a white helmet while Bama and OU don't. Indiana mixes in some grey if I'm not mistaken and they have black in their helmet logo. All I'm asking for (and no, being vocal about it on a message board isn't being xenophobic...it won't bother me at all if uni changes never happen) is slight changes to give us our own identity. A small thing like a stripe on the helmet would be enough. Right now, our home unis are almost exactly the same as USC's. Different stripes on the pants and jersey, but same nearly illegible logo on the helmet, same grey facemask. It's like we copied them. You see highlights on ESPN and it's hard to tell the difference (minus the level of play of course). I don't think that is being anal or that it is too much to ask.

I think many of us have been hoping that we could somehow distinguish our football uniforms a little more from USC's, correct?

I've always thought we should go with yellow helmets, but I doubt we will ever see that happen?

So... I've decided... based on our basketball away uniforms... that our football uniforms need just a little bit of white in them somewhere. I think our basketball away uniforms are sweet! The little thin white lines in them really make things stand out even more and look even sharper IMO.

I will try to doctor up some photos using my horrible photoshop skills and post them here when I get the chance.

Thoughts?

I really like our current uni's but I think these would be good alternates:

Nice pics, motorCYcle! I'd love to see some alternate uniforms like that. I would only object to white pants ever being used with the home jerseys. Never liked that look.

All whites are always badass. I don't have any problem with the unis we have now other than the cardinal on cardinal helmet and logo. It looks plain stupid. If I remember correctly our plan was to have people recognize the logo and having the same color logo and helmet goes against that imo. I would like to see white helmets but I could go for gold as well.

You mean two shoulder stripes on our jersey w/ a completely different font as opposed to USC's one large stripe on each side as well as a completely different looking road uniform aren't slight differences?

It's not as if we have taken USC's stock jerseys as our own, which is what most of the complaints sound like.

I don't like how bright the yellow is on our jerseys, so I darkened them up.

you gold helmet guys realize you can't tell what the **** our helmets say when the logo is on gold as the STATE has no red outline don't you? I mean that was one of the biggest problems with the tazmanian Cy (other than it looked like an NBA or minor league baseball logo), no one could tell what the hell it was from a distance. The more white you put in our uni's with red and gold the more McDonald's you appear. You have to go either red with mostly gold (like our home unis) or red with mostly white (like our aways). red with equal gold and white will not work outside the fast food industry. sorry.

If we aren't going to have any white, we need to darken the gold. The bright yellow does not look good.

I got nothing against darkening the gold other than I hate another uni change at this point, even a small one. Are they perfect? No. Are the pretty ******* close? Yes.
Why would you hate it?
More collecting?:jimlad:

well, that is one reason. Mostly just looking for a 5-6 year period of consistency before the next change.
I do believe we need to get an identity and stick with it forever. Darkening the yellow (or even making it almost real gold!) would probably be enough for me to want to keep that look forever. It seems like this could be accomplished quickly, and would be pretty cheap.
