I think killing Carl would be pretty bleak. With Sophia dying and then Carl, there wouldn't be any children in the group anymore, which wouldn't give much hope with the whole "children are the future" thing. But yeah that kid isn't a very good actor.

Carl is going nowhere. The relationship between he and Rick are central to the whole story. Annoying yes.

Maybe someone has already mentioned this, but is it possible that they become zombies if they're exposed to traces of zombie blood?

Sounds weird, but think about it. Shane was offed by the knife Rick had been using for zombies and Randall was in handcuffs that Rick took off the zombie school guards, which means Randall could have been exposed to it through sores on his wrists.

They were the only ones so far, right?
