Volleyball vs Baylor Wednesday

I'll be there, probably won't wear anything special though. Maybe they'll have donation jars for P.R.

What would be sensible way to show support for Latin night? I think waving a Puerto Rican flag may be one way. Any other ideas?

Miranda has got to be heart broken, but safe. She is uniquely positioned and may able to help her country somehow from here.

Going to quibble here but "her country" is the USA. Just like Alaska and Hawaii were part of the USA before statehood. PR has never been a country as we would define it today. It was a Spanish colony going back tot he 15th century before it was "ceded" to us as a spoils of war after the Spanish American War.

Must be nice to have time to quibble:).

Good argument, but for simplicity the Puerto Rican Commonwealth territory is a "country" (to me as an affront to the US using them (Wall Street, military bases) but never incorporating them into the 51st). Now are Puerto Ricans Hispanic or Latino?

What a turd of a game!
No kidding. While we got a pretty good one from Waco in Avery Rhodes their freshman setter Hannah Lockin from Valley made it look like an uneven trade. I thought Mauke was supposed to be the best setter recruit in Iowa last year. Were we even recruiting Lockin?

I thought when the season started we were about top 30 team, then I got excited by the ranking. Baylor was better at every phase tonight.

Three straight 5 set matches have taken their toll on this group. I thought at the Kansas match when we played such a small rotation with minimal subbing that we were going to see some fatigue issues happen and it showed up tonight.

Honestly I think that's the worst I've ever seen Iowa State volleyball play.

We did not offer Lockin.

Mauck cannot prove herself if she is not playing full time and it may now be time for CJL to make her the #1 setter and just stick to a 5-1 since Mauck is not a liability in the front row due to her length. As CJL mentioned after the match tonight, the offense has struggled all season long and part of the problem has been setting IMO. Also interesting that Hart played tonight, figured she would redshirt.

Aw, cmon, 3 5 set matches should not take its toll on 18-22 year olds. We play in weekend tourneys that we have 6-8 matches of 3-5 sets and I'm in my mid 40's. Mentally maybe, but physically, no way. This team needs someone with moxy/it factor to will them to wins and get them out of slumps. We have a lot of talent but not someone who has the intangibles during tight games.

I think it is tough choice for CJL. The 2 matches we lost, UNI and Kansas, their multi-point runs happened with Harris in the front row.

Personally, I don't think the versatility on defense/passing all around is as strong as in the past, and our serving is not putting enough pressure on the serve/receive of other teams.

As far as outside hitting goes, I really don't know why Bailey hasn't been getting more swings.

Overall, I think CJL needs to decide, 6 2 or 5 1 and stick to whichever.

I think the 6 2 is the right choice, IMO. Harris is our best server, so is Mauk. Harris a good back row defender, and Mauk is pretty good at blocking.

Didn't she have injury issues?

She did previously, but CJL said she was healthy, at least toward the beginning of the year. Her swings went down when Conway got moved to OH, but since the Creighton match, Conway has only had 1 match where she hit over 200.
