Volleyball recruiting

There was a coach at the Rochester M1 scrimmage this past weekend with a 6' 7" 14 year old. Last year up there we played a 14's team that was 6' 8" 6' 7" 6' 4" across the front. None of them giraffes on ice skates. Probably offspring of the Vikings Twins Timberwolves or Wild players I would guess?

Holy crap that seems like a little bit of an advantage. Would make coaching easier.

We played fast, lot of shoots, we tipped around their block enough to get points but any overpass or longer developing set to the pins came straight back in our face:)

Our current team has six players over 6' but none of the 2018 recruits are over six foot from what I have read. Height is a major advantage, not and end-all be-all but, a real strength when talented.

Lexi Sun rumored to have been granted her release from Texas. If true that knocks them down more than a few pegs. Wherever she lands is going to get better instantly unless she goes beach or something.

Got to see Mantz play recently. She has always been good but she has improved her power and quickness. ISU offered early and it is a good thing they did. That is why they make the big money.

Interesting, wonder if she is heading closer to home? My daughter (much younger) plays on the same club Lexi played for, the girls really look up to her.

As noted, Jess Schaben plans to play beach volleyball at LSU after her senior year at ISU.

Nice article today in the Council Bluffs Nonpareil:

. . . “I’ve always really wanted to play sand,’’ she said. “It will be really fun, and I’m looking forward to it.’’

When Schaben expressed a desire to play beach volleyball, Iowa State coach Christy Johnson-Lynch told her to contact some schools. She did, and LSU coach Russell Brock responded quickly. They immediately hit it off, and Schaben visited Baton Rouge about three weeks ago. . . .

I considered starting a new thread with just her name. :p:D:rolleyes:

I looked at the A&M roster to she if she had a bio there and noticed all but one gal is from overseas. Peru, Bulgaria, Turkey, Dominican Republic, Argentina, and Columbia. Pretty interesting. Even the coach was born in Turkey. Just thought this was interesting for a historically black university to have, essentially, an entirely international team. Going to be a bit of a cultural change for her coming to Ames from that international team.

And sounds like a great transfer pickup.

If she makes connections like Genesis did with Grace and the Puerto Rican student association then she will have a better chance to settle. Good advice for any college student, make connections with someone or something on campus.
