Vikings fans...

He's always been really good against big receivers because of his size, but struggles against smaller, quick and speedy receivers. The league is trending towards that type of receiver and he's struggling to keep up now. With the rules becoming more and more strict every year reducing the amount of contact a DB is allowed to make with a WR, his style of play just doesn't work like it used to. I wonder if he could make the move to safety? Seems like he could be a beast there. Other corners have done it later in their careers.
I'll be shocked if either Rhodes or Joseph are on the team next year at their pay levels. Don't know what dead $ there would be but both really started tailing off last year, and it continues. Some will probably push back on me re: Joseph, and, hey, he got a sack last night, but there are many running plays where he's pushed down field 5+ yards.

Rhodes to safety - I don't see it happening on the Vikings. He doesn't seem to mesh attitudewise, and I wouldn't give up Harris for him, even ignoring the $ (Harris much cheaper)--> no way they'd even consider moving the Hit Man to make room for Rhodes.

I agree that Cook has been awesome. If our OC and the OL can keep Cousins from getting in too many high-pressure situations, we could do very well. Hopefully, our CBs get better (and, Hill is coming back, should help some), as our D isn't as great has it has been; still is good. We'll see...

WHAT? You're crazy. I get criticizing Christian Ponder and Laquan Treadwell, but if there is one thing Spielman has been great at it has been drafting.

My only beef with Spielman is his insistence on trading out of the middle rounds in order to gather 6th & 7th round picks. I understand doing it some years, but I read somewhere that the Vikings have picked the fewest times in the 3-5 rounds than anyone during his tenure. I get uncovering that 7th round hidden talent, but here is a lot of talent he is missing in order to take long shots.

I think that's exactly his argument -- that round 3 and beyond doesn't show much of a talent disparity as it goes further on, so it's better to collect more drafting opportunities than it is to have fewer drafts, higher up (after the first round or two, anyway).

I guess it probably depends on any given draft class and how much separation there is between prospects once you get past the top tier, but considering the draft is mostly an educated guess for even the really good personnel guys it maybe makes more sense to get as many bites at the apple as possible. Quantity over quality.

I don't get the "Speilman sucks at drafting" crowd. Since he took over as GM in 2012, he's had 78 draft picks. Of those 52 are still on NFL rosters or practice squads. Compare that with a team like the Packers over the same period. For them it's 45 players still in the league of 71 drafted.
I'm not using those numbers to say that he's done better than Green Bay, or that he's the best in the league at drafting, or that other parts of his GM game aren't subpar, but he's a far cry from "sucking" at drafting.
He tends to do really well in the middle rounds, and in the first two rounds it's hit or miss. Ponder was the worst 1st round pick ever. Kalil was a bad one, and guys like Patterson, Harvin and Floyd had some success but never amounted to what you want out of a 1st rounder. Same with Waynes and so far Hughes although he's still young.

Kalil never missed a start in his first 4 seasons. I won’t disagree that he was a poor LT, but the longevity he provided actually helped justify that rookie contract. They needed to move him to the interior.

Patterson is still playing (somehow) for Oakland.

Percy Harvin won Rookie of the Year and a Super Bowl with the Seahawks.

Waynes is going to be starting on a new team next year. Probably a sub-.500 team but he’s no bust either.

Floyd’s career was literally cut short due to a botched surgery.

I love your passion for the NFL demoncore but I think Spielman has done well at identifying NFL talent. I’m with you that he needs to find a QB in the first round in 2020. I’m curious if Burrow’s rise has dropped Lawrence down enough for Minnesota to make a move and get him?

Lawrence is 2021 fyi

I even knew Lawrence was a sophomore too. Don’t know why I thought he would be draft eligible this year. Well that really throws a wrench into what I hope the Vikings do this offseason. I don’t know if there is a QB worth taking in Round 1 or 2. At this point I’m kind of hoping Baylor’s Brewer is available in Round 3 or 4 and just risk him as a backup.

Fromm from Georgia might be a good one

He has been struggling lately. Tua is the #1 prospect and the Oregon kid is #2. After that it's probably Burrow, Fromm and Eason. The thing about Tua, and all Bama QB's really, is that they always have a deep group of elite WR's. There's almost always someone wide open. How do you grade a QB that has such an easy job?

I am hoping that Trey Adams (LT from Washington) falls to Minnesota in the 1st round. If he can stay healthy, he's an all pro player easily. A QB in round 2 might be good, but there will be other needs such as DT and a 3rd LB to start next to Barr and Kendricks.

I can already see it now: Vikings win, KC has too many injuries, especially Mahomes. Vikings lose, Cousins loss against another good team, still bad.

Cousins didn't play great but he wasn't a disaster either. He just doesn't have "it" as a clutch time QB. You need a quarterback who can extend or make plays with the game on the line. He has proven he can't do that. He has proven this over and over again. But this loss to the Chiefs is on the coaching staff more than Cousins. This loss is on them.

With all that guaranteed money, you better damn well have “it” whenever you need too. That’s on the GM and Kirk. He’s a sham and overpaid and it’s a joke.

Plenty of blame to go around, but the Vikes defense was hit and miss today. The back end was bad and they have a former pro-bowler who probably should be benched.
I read earlier today that both of the Vikings starting CBs are firmly in the bottom half of PFF's position rankings. That's pathetic and a massive regression.
