ISU shoots a lot of 3's, plays a high quality of offensive basketball and outscores your opponents. You are going to be able to play with top level teams if you are shooting well and if you have an off night shooting someone may trip you up (like last night).

That shouldn't change any expectations going forward. You are still a NCAA tourney team with some things to work on. Lucious needs to be reined in as much as possible, he still shoots too much too quickly. McGee should stay on the bench as he's your instant offense every game when needed...if you put him in the starting lineup you lose a lot of punch off the bench.

Hoiberg is doing an excellent job building a program for many years to come....stay optimistic.

I agree with you; our basketball playing is offensive. Ba-dum, ching!

Seriously, though, thanks for having a level head about things.
 
I think the fan base also forgets that we play best when our Freshman leader plays well.... Niang.... hard to rely on a freshman but he will begin to play more consistent as the year progresses and that should help as well.
 
I think Niang really needs to look at some of his fouls. That one where he just extended both arms and pushed the guy under the boards in the back was silly, everyone can see fouls like that. Maybe Melvin could give him rebounding advice.
 
OP is wrong. We are screwed. The team cared about playing well @KU, but they are just faking effort for the rest of the games. This team is hoaxing us worse than Manti Te'o's girlfriend.
 
Everyone on here should avoid posting after a loss until after cooling down. That's why I didn't get on last night. I was mad. I'm level headed now. Thanks for the input, you said a lot of things I agree with. Hopefully we get back on track now.

I used to get upset about the bad/early shots. But I'm not sure we do much better when we "run the offense" (whatever that means with this team) because or gaping hole in the middle really limits our ability to get shots in the half court. No low post threat = no incentive for the defense to sag or double team and you don't get open perimeter looks.

Niang and Mel do what they can down low, but they just don't have the big bodies. Percy and Booker have fallen off the face of the earth. They are not even role players lately, it's like we're trying to steal minutes whenever they are on the floor.

Based on what? Honest question. I agree with the rest but the only reason ISU is an NCAA team is based on hope, as opposed to any results.

Thanks to the 3-point shot, the lane is wide open for back door cuts. We have been very good at getting our guys out on the perimeter all season long, spacing the floor, and making the easy passes/shots. Last night our shots just weren't falling like they usually do. Our offense is based around making outside shots, if we aren't hitting, then our inside game quickly deteriorates. We don't have a go to guy like RW last year. Plain and simple. We're not a GREAT championship quality team, night in and night out, but if we get hot late in the season the sky is the limit.

I've been impressed with Booker the past few games, but last night he wasn't very productive. Against TCU, Texas, and WV he had solid role games. He had his head down last night, hopefully the home crowd on saturday will get him going again, along with our shooters

I guess I am basing this on the fact that regardless of rankings/standings/win loss record, I believe ISU is a team capable of being a top 45 team (or whatever the bubble line is). ISU can be very dangerous when shooting well as we saw the first 39 mins @KU.....currently they just have a higher ceiling/lower floor due to their reliance on 3's. Hoiberg just needs to find a way to bring the lower floor up.

I think that was frustration pure and simple. There were quite a few times where I was shocked at the way Tech players were keeping ISU from the boards. On one play very early in the game I rewound it because it looked like the player was trying to push his car out of the ditch. He was pushing an ISU player out of bounds under the basket leaned over with both arms on him but he never drew the whistle. It was the strangest "block out" I have ever seen. The key to beating ISU is obviously play very physical and hope the officials swallow their whistles. When they get frustrated this ISU team gets out of their rhythm and can't seem to run their offense or hit their shots. At some point as a team you have to look at how they are calling the game and adapt. It is hard to do that when you try to match the physical play and don't get the same calls. This is especially a problem when you don't have the post depth that your opponent does.

I'm confident Fred will pull them out of this.

So "hope" would be the correct answer. You see a team capable of being a top 45 team but I see a team that has only shown that in about 10% of their games all year. Much like dozens of other teams that will be in the NIT.

Based on what? How about every projection has us in or above 50% chance of being in. Its fair to say that based on your assessment you think this team will **** it up and not make it. But its also fair to say what he did, we are still an ncaa team with some work to do. Or put another way we still have to get it done but have a very attainable path to the tourney. Sure some teams in our position on the bubble will fall off into the NIT, some others will move in and others will move into solid position. Not sure your point or beef, he made an objective obsevation of were we are at right now.
