Video of 'The Shot'

Looking at the video here is the best break down I can give. The clock started about .2 seconds late on the play, the light went off about .1 or .2 before the clock hit 0.00, the shot got off about a tenth of a second after the light went off but right about exactly when the clock hit zeros. So I got out a stop watch and starting at the catch and stopping at the release, the very best estimate I can get is 1.8 seconds give or take a few hundredths. However, should be kept in mind they tied it on a phantom foul, it was known there was no review for the game, and its not like Creighton had the lead so best case for them is going to overtime (a fifty fifty proposition at most).

I think it was late but I won't be 100% convinced until I see a picture that includes the clock at 0.0 in the background. In looking at the video, it looks to me like the light comes on a fraction of a second before the clock changes from 0.1 to 0.0.

I know it's grainy, but I took the video on ISU MBB facebook and paused it. The hand is down by his ear. Time is at 00.0, red light is on. I circled the ball. We got lucky, but who knows if we don't beat them by 12 in overtime. (or lose...) Fact is that we have a W, time to move on.

I watched the video too. I noticed that the ref on the baseline was shielded by the ISU player you can see in the background. The ref on the sideline was shielded by the Creighton player attempting to block the shot. The third ref was 70 feet away from the play so he's not going to be able to see anything definitive. And the game wasn't televised so ISU caught a break in every possible way during those last 1.9 seconds. Still it was an amazing shot and I think 90% of the refs out there are going to give the shooter the benefit of the doubt on a play like that.

One thing I noticed was if you watch the highlites on the news the light on the back board goes on but you don't hear the horn until the ball is 1/2 way to the basket if I was a ref Id be listening for the horn not watching the light on the back board they should be looking at the players for fowls, travels, ect. I really question if the clock, backboard and horn were all in sinc?

I agree with you here. Not sure how an official can be looking at the play and the clock at the same time. Just wanted to show a pic with light, player and clock in the same photo frame.
