Victory song?

This isn't about arguing semantics of what is or isn't a victory song, but just finding something that works for ISU, and keeping after it. There's never been much drive to keep any kind of tradition here.

Doesn't ISU have the walk into the stadium or something like that?

I know it's probably a bit of a cheesy song, but I think it's a great fit for ISU, given the school's ag programs and the fact that a lot of students/alumni/fans have connections to rural Iowa, but I think "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" would be a great ISU victory song.

I like it personally. It may sound somewhat corny but after a win, this would be kinda cool. Only problem I see is getting people to know the lyrics. It's not all that popular of a song with young people today and it goes so fast it's hard to pick up on the words.

I like where you are going with this though Al.

Don't know about what would be the best ISU victory song.
However, I do wish that before every start of the game, they would blast "You're Going Down" by Sick Puppies. Love that song. Always gets me fired up.

too bad they cant blast anything, the speakers are terrible

Few Suggestions just off the top of my head:

Bruce Springsteen - Glory Days
Garth Brooks - Thunder Rolls
John Mellencamp - Small Town
Kansas - Carry on My Wayward Son
Lynard Skynard - Simple Man
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Fishin in the Dark
REO Speedwagon - Ridin the Storm Out
The Sweet - Little Willy
Three Dog Night - Joy to the World

I agree ISU lacks in game day tradition, or something that stands out as our own... The PA system sucks, the speakers are horrible. The sound that comes out of them is a disgrace to big time football, and we need to amp it up... I would love livn on a prayer... that would be fun. we need to get this thread 12k long, and get JP in on it. :) mr williams, get to work

I don't know if it is their victory song or not, but doesn't Ohio State have a tradition of singing Hang on Sloopy or something like that?

Hang On Sloopy is it. My Dad is an Ohio State grad so grew up listening to the Ohio State Marching Band songs he'd play on the stereo during football season. "We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan" song might be one of the most creative songs about a rival.

Big and Rich--Save a horse, ride a cowboy
Garth Brooks--Friends in Low places
Poison--Nothin but a good time

I hate the Sweet Caroline tradition. Would be better to replace it with something a little more exciting than that. You could always do ACDC - Thunderstruck or something like that.. based on the reception when it comes on at any bar, I'm sure fans would be all for it.

Ugh. Nothing unique about that at all. For some reason it's become "ironic" and "funny" for people to sing that song at bars in the last couple years. I'd bet overwhelming odds that someone else uses this song a ton.

Although, I do like where your head is at about making this thread huge, and getting the idea to the AD

I'm 24, and I think you'd be surprised how well known that song is with my generation. I think a lot of folks at JTS would know it. Good "unifier".

I've always thought Thunderstruck would be a good INTRO song.

How about the Texas A&M and the Aggie War Hymn? It's one big slam on the University of Texas and that is pretty much it. Their fans stay after the game win or lose to sing the song, the team stays out on the field to participate, etc.... The Aggies are not short in the tradition dept.

Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Good-bye to Texas University
So long to the Orange and the White
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies
They are the boys that show the real old fight
"The eyes of Texas are upon you..."
That is the song they sing so well
SOUNDS LIKE HELL!!!!!!!

So good-bye to Texas University
We're going to beat you all to--

Their feelings about Texas totally cross the line from "rivalry" to "total obsession". I've never seen a fan base as obsessed with their rivals as A&M is with Texas. Still, it's a great time, and the best fan base I've been around. Love A&M.

The most disturbing part of the tradition is the song itself - Neil Diamond used the 11-year old Caroline Kennedy as an inspiration for that song. With that intimate knowledge, the bridge "Oh, one, reaching out, touching me, touching you" becomes quite creepy...

Love Smoke on the Water when they walk down and out of the Jake. I can't say that their second choice for song to go with the video does anything for me.

I thought just playing the loop of the Smoke bass line got really repetitive. I did like showing the video of them walking out of the Jake though.
