Veishea Problems? Welch?

and people who say this **** me off. They're just trying to make sure we're all safe most of the time. Yes there is an occasional ****, but their purpose is to protect and serve the taxpayers.
wahhh wahhh wahhh..... lots of police miss-use the power that they have. that pisses me me off. get over it.

That's where you're flat out wrong. "Lots" is completely wrong.
Fact is, it doesnt have to be lots. The police always seem to say 'its a few ruining it for everyone'. Well, apply the reverse to those cops that abuse their power, x 10 because cops should be held to a higher standard.

Racist:jimlad:. Anyways I do agree with you, they do misuse there power. Well the older cops anyways.

i've heard the opposite. My dad is a recently retired officer from a college town and he said it was mostly the younger guys who are out to prove something/change the world that give the majority of police a bad name.

1, That's hilarious. 2, was this over by Sheldon?

I was at the party this moped jump was at and yes it was by sheldon.

The fire dep. ended up coming to put out a huge fire cause after he did that people through everything they could find on the fire. Then a bunch of cops showed up and started yelling "UNRULLY CROWD" and the cops did get a little violent with one of my friends. The cop grab his beer spiked it then pushed him in the chest...I thought they wer out of line but the party was CRAZY so I don't blame them...

If police wanted to be a "pig" and/or "****" about anything, they could have arrested more than 500 underage drinkers. They were just trying to make sure riot isn't going to happen. If you are underage, be drunk, and be at Welch, you have no right to ***** about anything. You are asking to be arrested, especially on a weekend like VEISHEA.

Is it possible they blocked off welch to keep as many people as possible away? They don't need hundreds more people around what they called a minor disturbance to make things worse. The two night I walked home this weekend include numerous people yelling and trying to pick a fight. The more people in an area only makes things worse.

As to closing down tailgating at football games, 1. those aren't all weekend and night long. 2. There aren't nearly as many visiting students.

As I said earlier, and someone else echoed it, if I was a business owner on Welch (Jimmy Johns, Subway, Pita Pit) I'd be PISSED that the police forced my business to close at 1:30 on one of the busiest nights of the year because of... 6 ARRESTS!! OMFG!!1

Its like the cops closing down the entire jordan creek mall because a few people fought over a tickle me elmo in one of the stores. On black friday.

Not a bad analogy. I really hope one these owners steps up and addresses this abuse of power. I know I would.

These guys are trained in mob control which is a science in itself. Do some of you really think you know more than they do?

Then their trainer needs to be fired. I don't have any education in mob control, but I do know that firing teargas DOWNWIND OF A RIOTING MOB BUT UPWIND OF A DORMITORY is an ineffective tactic.

Sorry, that's the one thing from 2003 that I've never let go of. Mostly because of getting teargassed in my own dorm room.

This sounds exactly like what happened that night with the mace. Someone out of control? Mace them. Someone didn't hear your instructions? Mace them. Someone got tripped by another officer? Mace them. Someone asked what's going on? Mace them. Someone's walking down the street? Mace them. I think you get the point.

Fights, 4 arrests mar final night of ISU's Veishea | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register
Four people were arrested, none of whom are listed as current Iowa State students. One of the four, Tyease Thompson, 23, is a former student and football player.

More than 50 people were arrested over the weekend, which police said was consistent with figures from years past.

Police Lt. Jason Tuttle said the violence and fights on Sunday paled in comparison to the riot of 2004, which resulted in 38 arrests and more than $100,000 in damage.
...

The atmosphere and size of the crowd were similar to what could be expected at a home football game against the University of Iowa or the University of Nebraska, Tuttle said.

But immediately after the fights broke out Sunday, hundreds of people congregated around the site of the violence.

"It took officers more than an hour to clear people away," Brennan said. "People weren't following directions, and people were Maced as a crowd-control measure."
so.. only 4 arrests now from the fights, and the police even admit the crowds were no more than a football game in the fall. yet there were 10x as many police visibly present.

and clear people away? from what i saw the crowd was right where it always is even w\o fights... by the super dog stand..

I think ames pd needs to rethink the mace as a crowd control measure thing except in extreme circumstances. Certainly not for something that only needs 4 arrests. Its more likely to escalate things than to calm things down.

It's called: "Drunk Idiots". Angers cops almost everytime... A few people usually screw it up for EVERYONE

NOT TRYING TO START A RIOT AT ALL, just looking for information. Cops having been pretty cool as of late but something must have set them off right now for them to completely shut down welch before bar close.
