Vegas

If you love good hamburgers, then you HAVE to stop at Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay. It was the best restaurant burger I've ever had. 100% Kobe beef at a decent price. I've eaten there three times now and I crave it every time I want a burger.

This. My wife and I ate there the last time we were in Vegas. Very, very good. Decently priced as well. Lots and lots of available toppings. I wanted to get my burger with lobster on it, but decided to save the money for gambling.

I very rarely eat red meat, and I enjoyed that place a lot. They have some pretty good side orders, too, so that makes it even better for those who prefer veggies/chicken.

Edit - Mr Janny beat me to it. :)

Vegas is hurting like no other city in this country (except perhaps Detroit). The area had two things going for it before the recession, construction and gaming. Both have cratered; the strip casinos lost several billion $ last year.

As a side note, Las Vegas is the last place I would ever go for a vacation even though I visit the place at least monthly (I have close relatives living there and once lived there myself). For the life of me I have never figured out the attraction.

You've never figured out the attraction of Vegas? I'm not saying it's the best vacation spot on the planet, but surely you can see why people want to go there.

Different strokes for different folks. I like to play poker as much as the next guy but not at a Casino. Never been to Vegas and money is not the isssue just impresses me as a multitude of sheep being led to slaughter. The place is not particulartly warm in the Winter or cool in the Summer. My neice was a County Prosecuter in Vegas and she couldn't take the excessive growth anymore and left five years ago. Sounds like the **** has hit the fan now that the rest of the country's disposable discretinary income has tanked. Always interesting how a gambling mecca could be such a success in an uninhabited desert that depended upon cheap airline flights.

Been there, done that, Overrated ! Won't go back. We went in Feb. 2008. They had record low temps while we were there. It was a high of 35 degrees one of the days with winds blowing 35 mph+. I swear we came back to Iowa to warm up .

Thanks for your awesome, worthless input, Negative Nancy
dtclones--no special events or anything but it is a blast seeing non-stop hoops all morning, afternoon and early evening! We always hang out at the little bar just inside Harrah's. I'm a cheap skate so I walk the 300 feet to the corner booze store and buy 24 ouncers and they let you take it back inside the bar.

If I rememer correctly you're an outdoor type of person so I can see why you don't like Vegas. I am definately not an outdoor person (besides the golf course) so I love Vegas! Alcohol, girls, gambling, 24/7 party, it's awesome! What I like about Vegas is everyone is there to have a good time. Everyone is in a good mood for the most part and it's just one big happy party.

$2 Corona Light
$2 Bud Light
$2 Bud

Downtown all the time

$50 basketball bet at the freemont = 2 beers

Free beer when I play craps

So am I basically going to have to pay $7 plus for drinks when I go in a couple weeks. What's the secret to getting reasonable drink prices?

Buy cases/bottles of booze at the mini marts on the strip at normal retail prices and store in your room or carry with you. You will still get bent at the casino bars and restaurants but having some in reserve to carry around will lessen the blow.

Casino Royale and Sahara both have pretty good deals on beer ($2 a bottle i think), plus downtown is pretty cheap.

Best advice for Vegas---Wild Bill's Gambling Hall...We literally bet a penny a spin at a slot machine and got drinks for free for about 2-3 hours. Went over to Harrah's after midnight for $5.99 steak and eggs. The Pub at Monte Carlo has drink special (ladies drink free some nights, I think)

But as far as the ridiculousness of Vegas, our cab driver told us our trip to the airport was $18 but the reader thing said $12.80. We couldn't get water at two different places unless we specifically ordered it. Treasure Island had a minimum sports book bet of $100 to get a drink ticket (it used to be $20-$25).
