UW-Milwaukee fires coach

That's a pretty simplistic view of a complex situation that changed drastically from the time TJ accepted the offer to come back.

Maybe so. But that is the line of crap that was fed us starting in April.

To be fair, I think the job he freaking cancelled an interview for wasn't as good as the Milwaukee job, but still......

Well if I remember right it was the Green Bay job which is playing in the NCAA tournament today.

One NCAA Tourney appearance in the last 10 years? Unless Wikipedia has that wrong, I don't see why firing him was a bad move.

They generally finished 5th of better in their league of 10 teams. Actually 2 NCAA tournament appearances. I have never been a fan of a team in a 1 bid league, but Horizon league is 20th in Conference RPI.

I don't really know what should be expected from a Horizon league school, but from an outsider, seems like he was doing well enough to just let his contract run out.

There have been talk that a huge buyout was the reason he hadn't been fired before. Maybe the buyout is a lot less this year?

TJ turned down the chance to interview for a Wisconsin-system school last year to come and be the assistant at Iowa State though....and as I've been told multiple times he only came here to be an assistant.

I know you don't like me and that's fine..... but the TJ "turned down" something to come here instead depends on who you talk to. But maybe that was your point. Sorry, it was a confusing time for many.

You would have to think he would've interested and than he would be on their list. I just hope he stays at least one more year for recruiting bc I don't know how they will do without him

If you think TJ is all about the $$$$ then you'd be way off.

Alright enlighten us as to what he is all about then? Are you just another idiot CyFan that has put TJ on this giant pedestal without actually understanding why? The TJ love is tiresome on this board.

I actually have a really weird source for TJ information. And now my inside source doesn't really have an active connection to ISU so they have no ulterior motives. TJ would leave ISU to become the HC at UWM. He wouldn't leave ISU to become the HC at any other Horizon League school if that was the choice.

I assume TJ will only be at ISU next year if he's not offered the UW-Mil job.

If we end up with an opening, Maybe we can get Dave Rice over here. Good recruiter who may have some free time. And who I can't imagine will have too many people begging him to come be their HC.

I thought there was a poster stating that TJ was a 100% gone and taking a head coaching job next year.

I'm going to relax and enjoy today instead of worrying about things out of my control with Horizon league teams or speculating what may or may not have been promised to TJ a year ago.

Rob Jeter at UWM has a 184-170 record.

11 seasons - 4 losing season, 4 20-win seasons, 2 NCAA appearances.

Frankly rather average performance. The school does have some APR issues and was banned from the post season for a year.

Jeter, a Bo Ryan disciple, tried to run the program in a Ryan-esque way until it became apparent that he had to identify and attract athletic guards and wings to compete with the Wright State, Valpo's of the conference.

UWM has been average for most of his career. UWGB just hired a run-and-gun coach (Darner) from D2 Florida Southern. UWGB just locked up Wisconsin's POY high schooler.

Staying with Jeter you likely get more of the same ... 0.500+ ball, 20+ wins every couple of years, an occasional conference championship and occasional NCAA tourney bid.

UWM is one of the largest schools in the conference in one of the larger cities with close proximity to Chicago. I guy like TJ can and will attract the right kind of players this school needs to compete.

Milwaukee is home for TJ.

TJ mentioned...

https://sports.yahoo.com/news/colle...ncinnati--georgia-tech--others-203644885.html

"• Milwaukee somewhat surprisingly fired 11-year coach Rob Jeter after a 20-win season – his fifth 20-win year, but he’s led the Panthers to the NCAA tournament only twice. That led to some backlash directed at athletic director Amanda Braun – particularly from Wisconsin Sen. Lena Taylor, who verbally challenged Braun during a news conference to discuss Jeter’s dismissal. One candidate for the job is Milwaukee native T.J. Otzelberger, an Iowa State assistant, but sources said the school intends to cast a wide net in its search."

Well, if the article is accurate, that AD sounds like a nightmare to work for.

I hope TJ thinks twice if an offer does come about. If he gives it a couple of more years he might be able to get a better offer without an AD who seems so nasty and vindictive.

Little surprised that we haven't heard about TJ interviewing for the UW- Mil post and he may not get one.

@GoodmanESPN Cal assistant Tracy Webster picking up steam at Milwaukee, sources told ESPN.

Hope TJ gets a HC gig soon but him staying in Ames another year would be really good for the program.

I want him to stay one more year for Matt Thomas and help bring in this first recruiting class.

Why would you hope he gets a hc gig? The longer he's here at ISU recruiting the better we will continue to be as a program. I want Otz here the rest of his career if I had it my way.

I would like him to stay through the 2017 class which is a huge one, but long term it would be great if he could pick up some head coaching experience and then take over here some day.
