NFL: Urlacher close to joining Vikings?

Worked out pretty well with Favre for a year. Hoping Jennings plays great as well.

I actually think Urlacher is a good pickup if they get him. Maybe they can get a few years out of him. Look what Ray Lewis did this last year. The think with Urlacher is he needs to stay healthy. If you can get him cheap use him for leadership and playing time would be an added bonus IMO.
If you enjoy watching your mortal enemy infiltrate your team, take over and gut your will to live in a championship game. Then yes, Favre worked out pretty well for you.
But it will be about 7-8 years from now, when he is on the downside of his career. Too bad the Vikes cannot identify/draft/keep/attract young talent.

I don't think signing Urlacher would be a terrible idea, but I also don't think it would be a slam dunk. In terms of the likelihood it happens? Slim. Spielman doesn't want to take reps from young players who are developing and improving and give them to a vet in his last year or two in the NFL.
There are questions about whether Urlacher can move well enough to cover in a Tampa 2 anymore. The biggest thing the Vikings need in a MLB is someone who can stay on the field all 3 downs if needed. I'm not sure he can do that.
Also, the only other team this guy mentioned as being in touch with Urlacher immediately clarified that they had no contact with him at all. Doesn't give this guy much credibility.
