I bet he wasn't interested in college. I imagine that recruiting has to take it's toll on you. Between recruiting, transfers and early entrants, you're constantly having to figure out your roster. I'd imagine there's tremendous allure to being paid better and having someone else primarily responsible for the personnel.

And groveling to 17yr old punks on a regular basis. I realize not all recruits are that way, but it’s gotta be pretty common when you’re fighting for the best of the best 5* players who can pick from any top program.

Matt Rhule got $8.6 million per year from the Panthers.

Nick Saban gets $9.3 million per year from Alabama. He's the highest-paid of college coaches.

Bill Belichick gets $12 million and Pete Carroll gets $11 million -- the two highest-paid in the NFL.

If his place in "the market" is alongside Belichick and Carroll, well, it is not unreasonble.

This post made me squirm a bit when folks say "CMC may want the NFL" if Rhule can get that....kinda like Hoiberg and the Bulls...at some point a big chunk of change is also hard to say no to.

Personally, I would take the USC job over Texas. You could rule the West Coast under way less stress.

I think one of two things are true with Urban that explains this.

1) He’s literally addicted to football and coaching. He can’t stay away even though he knows it’s bad for his health. He thinks he can manage it so he takes a job. Two years later his health is declining and his family convinced him to step away.

2) The violation/corruption that seems to follow him. He comes in, ignores all the rules, puts together a championship program, then bolts as the regulators close in. Rinse, repeat.

Yeah that math works if you assume constant supply and distribution along with disregarding previous infections, which is the wrong way to think about it. Once health care workers are taken care of and supply ramps up, distribution of vaccines will dramatically increase. Also, we can assume a decent percent of the population has been infected already, building some immunity. I think by fall we'll be in a pretty good place.
