Updates on the 16-17 hoops schedule

The home slate is pretty weak, but the string of Miami, then Gonzaga/Florida/Seton Hall and then Cincinnati is going to be a good stretch.

5 out of the first 9 games are not give mes. I'm not sure what the people not impressed wanted.

That's an ugly schedule. We better win all games or lose maybe 1.

Hate it that we left a game on the table and couldn't find an opponent...Would like to have seen one more road game in there for a challenge before Big 12 starts....

I thought it was a bit odd that our last non-conference game prior to the Big12 was MVSU on Dec 20. However, counting back the weeks from the Big 12 tournament, it looks like we start Big12 play this year around Dec 27/28. I can't recall the Clones ever starting Big12 play before New Years before.

It would be nice to have a couple name programs visit Hilton every yea. However most P5 matchups are TV games set-up by ESPN. With the perception that the Cyclones are in rebuilding mode, we aren't that attractive to ESPN..

The other interesting thing is all the Sunday games. I wonder if these are doubleheaders by those schools where they are playing a school within driving distance of Ames on the Friday/Saturday before.

We have five P5 teams on our schedule, too bad 4 are neutral or road games. Not sure what Indiana State has coming back, but they have been a solid team the last few years. Very similar to UNI.

It's tough for the staff to schedule games in Hilton, it's not because other P5 teams don't want to come to Hilton. It's because every school wants to maximize their revenue by playing home games. The only way around it is for ESPN to step in and pay for a TV game.

Ideally, I wish Jamie and the basketball staff would create a long-term annual home & home matchup with a P5 team within 5 hours of Ames. Schools like Wisky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Northwestern or Illinois would all be fun matchups for fans. Even a school like Colorado would be great as there are a ton of ISU alumni in the front range.

All...two...Sunday games, one of them an exhibition.

In November, the Hilton schedule has to accommodate home events for MBB, WBB, VB, WR, and the annual high school all-state festival. And, working around home FB.

In December, they have to hold dates for potential NCAA VB hosting and graduation, in addition to the other winter sport schedules.

Indiana State has been pretty bad the last two years

They have not been bad, just average- 4 th & 6th in the MVC. They were 2nd the year before, so they have a decent program and it will be a nice test for ISU.

They were 15-17 last year and 15-16 the year before that. Ben Jacobson has never had a losing record at UNI and his last two years he's gone 54-17. I wouldn't say they are very similar to UNI

Only 12 games, and you're allowed to have 13. Any chance there is another game added, or is this what it will be for sure? I do recall Prohm saying somewhere that he thought we would only get 12 this year.

Calendar falls weird this year, Big 12 tourney is always the 2nd weekend of March on that Wed., and this year just happens to be the earliest it can possibly be on Wed. the 8th. Pushes the conference schedule forward.

I'm not going to worry about what we get at Hilton it's never going to be great. We just need to keep winning to get in to better and better holiday tournaments.
