Updates on the 16-17 hoops schedule

Not great to hear but that makes sense

--- Much of the early non-conference schedule was filled with the intention of Monte Morris and Naz-Mitrou Long being gone – meaning it is lighter than the staff might have hoped.

Another reason dropping UNI annually is dumb. UNI would be a good mid-major opponent.

Iowa St is in a position to get any mid major, the same caliber of uni, anytime it wants. You would obviously have to travel once out of 3 games, but that's what they had to do with uni. Valpo, Stephen F Austin, etc would all probably do 2 for 1's

I get that ISU doesn't want to play a home and home with UNI. That's fine, Iowa State has every right to dictate their own schedule, but with the Big 4 why not go to something like Ames-DSM-CF-DSM-Ames-DSM-CF, etc.

Only playing on the road once every three years and, basically, getting a permanent 2 for 1 is a fair arrangement for everybody and Iowa State still comes out better financially than playing a true home and home. I know Jacobson won't take a true buy game from either in-state team, but this seems logical to me...

Selfishly, I'd try to get the home and home with Creighton right away, especially if we get the home game this year. Creighton is gunna be good this year, decent next year. Nothing to lose in a series like this.

Iowa State could just flat buy either of those teams, it would be more pricey than your typical buy game, but it wouldn't require a return...

Now that TJ isn't here, we should do home and home with Marquette, since they probably wouldn't with him here.

No, it wasn't. If they wanted to come to Ames every year, or every other year, fine. But we don't need to go play on their court. You realize we used to play them and Drake every season, home and home? Now we play one per year and have an open spot for a team like Cincinnati or another high major.

If we played Marquette in Ames, we could save money on the cost of official visits by their transfers!

two big unknowns with these scenarios: 1) how much is iowa state willing to pay (and whats the market rate?) and 2) not sure legit mid majors Valpo, SFA, etc would agree to 2 for 1s.

Thanks. Glad to get some dates on the calendar.

Not wild about the Iowa game on a Thursday night. Seems like it would be a great weekend game. Put a low major on the weeknight. Oh well, I may make this my first venture to CHA.

P.S. Any news on the time of the UNI football game? Someone on PN has said he has inside info that it will be 7pm, but they are waiting for ISU to announce it.

I believe ESPN dictated this.

Are people really saying they would rather ISU play Valpo or SFA before UNI? That's just nonsense. The UNI game is always a 'must see' event in the state. The games over the last 10-15 years have mostly all been good close games. Why in the world would ISU fans not want to see that game every year? Makes no sense other than $$$, which like I say is dumb. Either ISU cares more about money than the fans or they are scared of UNI. Those games up at CF in the middle of the week were always fun as hell to watch.

That is correct. UNI has been notified that it is 7:00 on CyTV or FSN. Giving ISU the courtesy of announcing.
