Updated Starting 5

how was oliver looking in practice this year? will he see time time next year? I know he is pretty lean. Will he compete for the 3 spot?

I only say that because if we don't pick up another big, lack of depth in the front court might be an issue. Slide Vanderbeken to the corner, should open up the floor. Rebounding would be a concern.

Yea rebounding would be a concern. I guess colvin and DG aren't exactly rebounding guards like say stinson was.

I am becoming less and less concerned w/ "strength" in basketball, especially w/ wings. Wes was successful while he was pretty small and teams like Baylor has long, lean guys all over. Would rather have quickness and talent.

I think Kevin Durant has dispelled some of that as well. Talent and quickness can certainly more than make up for a lack of "strength".

(note: I am NOT comparing anyone on our team to Kevin Durant)

I think Colvin will start before we get too far into the season. I know that DG has been adequate, but he has had three years and to me continues to make the same mistakes and misses the same layups. I am all for Colvin getting the nod and see how he develops.

Garrett
Phillips
Ejim (CW)
Wilkins
Dendy

Off the bench
JVB
SC
Boozer
CC
Clyburn(Maybe)
Oliver
Palu

Honestly, let's say Wilkins is as good as we hope, just a 10 and 7 guy, and Ejim is serviceable, maybe 10 and 5 and can lock down a little, I like this team. I actually like this team. I think they could be good. I really like the athleticism that there is supposed to be in the front court. I just think as a team, they could be successful. I fully expect someone on this team to be more thank we think he will be. I think an Ejim could be a surprise as well as any of the JUCOs. If that happens, especially with an Ejim or a Clyburn and they turn into a legitimate scoring and defensive threat, this team will be better next year. Mac has to use the athleticism. This team does not have half court guys. That starting front court has to capitalize on the fact that at a lot of times they will be more athletic that the guys across from them and they have to be used that way. I watched Dendy when Dexter Pittman, for example was on him and he took Pittman out of the game for a time because he made him run the court every time. It wasn't his defense that shut him down, it was the fact that Dendy made him sprint full court everytime we got the ball. DO not underestimate that. If I were inside this program I would be begging Mac to let this team loose. He has nothing to lose.

I agree, but you can't teach talent and you can only do so much with quickness. This isn't an either or. You can get stronger. I want our team to be as strong as possible. If I had to pick I would take the talent and quickness but there isn't a reason to have to pick.

It's time to throw the Pollard line out there "how many of you have seen _____ and ______ play before they came to ISU? Raise your hands, anyone? We all annointed these guys as players that would take us to the NCAA tournament before they even played a game as a Cyclone."

I think DG will start, but may move over to the wing or third guard spot in the half-court. Scotty and Boozer will add toughness off the bench.
If we do not get another big:
DG
DP
CC
Ejim
Dendy

With another big:
DG
DP
Ejim
Wilkins
Dendy

CC-garrett is the epitome of suck, lead us colvin
SC-returning guy, already has a spot somewhere
Ejim-stud, could be a Big XII all freshman team honoree
Dendy-returning guy, has a starting spot.
JVB-returning guy, out for vengeance from injury this year

Interchangeable starters
CC/DG
SC/CC
ME/SC/BOOZ
LD/JW

This team should be more athletic overall than last years edition. It's all about how well they gel.

I soooo love the way that Dendy doesn't just get up the floor, but sprints up the floor. A guy like Pittman can't keep up with that for a whole game.

I guess for my starting lineup, I want to see Wilkins in action first (and that's not a complaint. I just want to see him to make my judgment). I guess I'd imagine:

DG (with many wondering why CC isn't starting.)--If CC keeps improving.....
DP--We need the athleticism, and SC would be a good spark from the bench,.
ME--I so buy the hype with this guy. I've been waiting for him forever. Boozer would be a great energy guy at this position off the bench,
LD--LaRon has to have earned this spot.
JVB--Senior. Experience. 3-point shooting. He'll be here. Rebounding might be a real concern next year, unless Dendy and the wings can get it done.

I would like to know what CC brings that Garrett doesn't. He is worse shooter and finisher. He is not yet ready to lead a team and he turns the ball over at a huge clip. DG was one of two players with even a positive T/A ratio. He was third in the Big 12 in assists. I like CC but he I do not want to give up the leadership of Garrett for what Colvin brings. I want Colvin on the floor a lot but not as the leader of this team. Maybe that will change when the season starts but right now DG is the best PG we have.

People on this message board who continue to say Colvin is better than DG right now please look at the stats from this past season.
There is no way Christopherson doesn't start. We need at least one guy who can shoot on the court don't we? A 3 guard lineup seems to be a real possibility.

I really think it would be great if Ejim started. Im just going with the freshmen factor though. Colvin comming from a great HS and really didnt do to much this year, I do see a bright future for him if he sticks around. However, i truely believe Dendy is the key guy, HE NEEDS TO STICK AROUND. I see the starting lineup with a clyburn commit as this

Dg....Colvin
Dp..... SC
Clyburn.....Ejim/Boozer
Dendy....Ejim
Wilkins..... Jamie

I think it would atleast be an athletic bunch of guys, however i still really dont see any progress with wins and loses next season.

Wilkins will not be starting at center is a 3/4 type of guy unless he gets a lot stronger
