Also, I see now that HB is the #3 overall player for the class of 2010 on Scout.

I was just going to post this. It doesn't actually mention anything about struggles. It just questions if the pressure is on McD to sign him. Obviously the answer to that question is pretty clear.

Harrison Barnes Finished the game with 13 points, at least 4 or 5 assists and a huge blocked shot. Teammate 6'8 Zach Mcabe added a game high 27 points as the Iowa Attack put on the cruise control and beat The Players 81-37. Barnes is a well rounded young man, very articulate as well. Barnes did not force the action and is a very team oriented player, but was clearly a cut above the other players on the court. After the game Barnes was kind enough to field questions from everyone.
Who was the best players you seen at the Lebron Camp?

"DeMarcus Cousins and Jon Wall, they play different positions, but Wall can pass."

Coming form the Lebron Camp in a setting like that is it any different playing here, I mean it's been a tough week for you mentally and physically?

"I think it's nice to come play with these guys to ya know? I mean to come from a setting where your playing with a whole bunch of all stars everyone is kinda somewhat selfish in a respect ya know? It's kinda hard to play with them to just meeting them, but when I come back and play with my normal team and we already have chemistry. It feels nice."

Is it almost better to come back to your normal team you know because you are kind of familiar with them?

"Well they are my friends (chuckles) I had to come back and play with the friends."

When you see these coaches out here, what is it like playing in front of them,is it kind of nerve racking?

"It was nerve racking a little while ago you just kind of become accustomed to it."

Tell us about your game a little bit what are your strengths right now and what are some of the things you need to work on?

"Right now I would say my strengths are spot up shooting and just shooting in general. Pulling up coming off of screens. I'd say that my area I need to improve the most would probably be my ball handling. In college I am going to play the 2 so I really need to sharpen up my handling."

Did you learn anything at Lebron about any of those strengths or weaknesses?
"Well they taught us a lot of drills and development in camp."
I am sure that every school in the country is recruiting you, do you have any feel or an early list at all?
"Right now I am just taking my time letting my skills develop. Recruiting right now every one's equal."
As your here in Louisville you have Louisville Kentucky and Indiana all close all three have coaches here watching you, are you interested in any of those three schools?
"Kentucky and Indiana have offered me so I am assuming a lot of interest form them and I have interest in them. As far as from Louisville they might have communicated with my head coach a little bit, but they have not communicated with me."
What are you looking for in a school?
"I want a strong academic field and basketball wise just a good solid team that can make me better and where I can make other people better. Hopefully have a national championship run and then go on to the pros."
Leave home or stay close to home, does it mater?
"I haven't decided distance yet."

Whats your GPA right now?
"3.39"
What did you want to get out of this summer?
"I just want to go and win some championships at some of these national tournaments get better and get some of my teammates some scholarships."
Do you have a time frame for when you would like cut your list?
"Not at the moment."
Do you know when you would like to make a commitment?
"I would like to go on some official visits check out some schools, check out some campuses. I haven't seen many so far so I just want to go see some schools."
Academically anything in particular your looking for?
"A strong business field. I am going to go into business administration finance."

Coach Cox was in attendance. I saw scouts from Duke, IU, Memphis and a slew of Mid Major programs.

the first game, Barnes was the focal point of his teams offense today scoring 26 points and showing his ability to get to the rack in multiple ways including a very nice dunk tip, that even made UK assistant Glynn Cyprien look intrigued. Barnes also showed that he is a very cerebral player and does all of the intangible things that you like to see your best player doing. With 6 seconds left in the half Barnes drove and dished the ball out for an easy jumper, making the score 33-28 at the half. Barnes had 13 at that time.

Barnes was aggressive in the second half having multiple attempts from the line. With 6 minutes left Barnes hit a shot to make it 60-52, then a few moments later Zach Mcabe sank a bucket and the bonus to push the lead to 67-63. With 20 seconds left left Barnes nailed to more free throws that sealed the win.

The second game was one of the best games that I seen all day. The Attack struggled early on however Barnes remained steady, posting 28 points right in front of Coach Gillispie and Coach Cox. 6'7 Ben Avercamp led the Wisconsin Swing with 24 points and multiple adjusted shots that helped to seal a 75-71 win.

After watching his All Iowa Attack team play 3 games and go 2-1. I have seen firsthand why there is so much hoopla surrounding the versatile young man. The final game was his best showing and his ability to shoot from long range was on display. With a couple of seasons left before he puts on a college jersey Barnes could put up numbers comparableto Beasley or Durant as a freshman.

Even without a horse in the race Coach Gillispie still works the zebras.

• Most of the high school players in Akron were seniors, but there were a couple of younger players who stood out: Harrison Barnes, a 6-5 junior from Ames, Iowa (think there's a little pressure on Iowa State coach Greg McDermott to sign him?) and Michael Gilchrist, a rising sophomore at St. Patrick in New Jersey. The 6-6 Gilchrist is an especially exciting player who can score a variety of ways.

I don't see anything where it says struggles...it says he has pressure to sign him

would it make you feel better if i told you, that he talks to most of the iowa state players daily, gets along with the coaches great, loves hiltons atmoshphere, and even lifts weights with Mcd's son...it comes down to if Iowa state can win some games in the next 2 years and prove to hiim that hes not coming to a school that will do nothing but lose when hes there

It might come down to Harrison on whether ISU wins or not.

Talk about turning NBA heads. If he goes to Duke and Duke goes to the Elite 8, big deal. He may be just another person. If he comes to ISU and we beat KU, TX, OU, and make it to the second round of the NCAA's, that will turn heads and may result in a top 2 lottery pick as a freshmen.

I think it's impact (ability to create change) versus total wins. Would be a lot easier to create buzz by changing a middle of the road team up to the top 30 then a top 10 team to the top 4-5. He risks not even having an impact at a school like Duke. Pretty obvious at Ames he's going to get lots of press and looks with the stage ISU plays.

Good point. Beasley took KSU to the second round and that really helped him turn heads.

well so did about 30 and 20 on opening night.

Well, Derek Rose was "just another player" on Memphis for most of the year, and became the #1 pick. Honestly, I think all the talk about being just another player at a big time program vs being a legend at ISU is overblown. If he is good enough, he'll be the best player on the team, no matter what school he chooses. In this day and age, I don't think where a player goes to college has much bearing on his NBA hopes. I think the fact that Beasley absolutely dominated in one year of college had more to do with him being picked #2 than Kansas State winning a couple more games. If you are good, you will be found, and drafted. Look how many foreign players are drafted, and even players from smaller schools. Every year while watching the draft, I hear names called that I've never heard of that play in college. Scouts find talent, no matter where it is.

cyismydog, thanks for the thread. I too had not seen it, I came along around Capital City League time last year. Good find.

I think he is right in the fact that USC and Kentucky are built to be more perennial powers and legit champions whereas Kansas is built to contend every 3-5 years or so.

I have avoided reading this thread but for some reason decided to read it today. I read the first page and that will be all I read.

However, this statement is absolutely ludicrous. I agree with USC being talked of as a perennial power IF WE ARE TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL. However, we are talking about basketball. USC has never won a national championship in basketball and their coach has never coached a team past the sweet 16 round. KU and UK have 3 and 7 national championships respectively and are nearly universally considered top tier basketball schools.

Heck, if he is looking for teams that are currently in "championship mode"...he should look at UCLA (final four nearly every year recently), Florida, Duke, KU, UK, and UNC.

I wonder what he means about the campus being important...cute coeds or a scenic campus. I certainly believe ISU's campus to be among the most scenic but I have seen Duke's, UNC's, and KU's...all are very scenic.

What's Roy thinking not offering this kid?

He may have guys locked up or already on the roster at that position that he's made "promises" to. Just sayin'. He may have limited scholarships available and needs to focus on other positions.

Is that supposed to be his interest in us?
Yes. Basically what scout is saying is that everyone is on equal ground with Harrison, where as before they were indicating that ISU had a slight lead. I wouldn't really worry about it, he probably just said everyone is equal and they took his word at face value.

As far as Carolina is concerned, I've heard that they only have one available scholarship left for 2010 assuming they land their last target in '09 and they have interest in a couple of SF's (Barnes, Roscoe Smith, and Travis McKie). My guess is that all 3 get an offer and it's first come first serve because that's how Roy likes to do things, but we'll see.
