UPDATE: McDermott has not accepted CU offer yet

When is the Party? I wouldn't want to be JP right now. This could be the biggest mess yet. If you follow the line that Pollard has been given, the money isn't there for a big name hire. I hope he can get the big donors to ante up quickly. It sounds like a good time to play it smart not quick.

Oh happy day!

FYI: One name you're certain to hear at ISU: Billy Gillispie. He has some fans in the administration, I'm told, from his Big 12 days.

If it is true CU has to pay ISU 800,000 buyout of his contract that is a good start ISU should be able to offer 1.6 million a year to get a good coach. Need someone pretty fast to stabalize the program and recruits. Pollard will not sleep tonight. His head is on the line on this one. If we lose our recuits we could go winless in the Big 12. I thought with those late recruits we would be okay next year.

No, I'm fairly certain Pollard is feeling good about all of this. The McDermott situation has been a fiasco since he came out in favor of the coach, and he's felt the pressure from all levels of the department, campus partners, donors, and fans.

This is a win-win situation for Pollard and McDermott. For McDermott he can go to a program at a level he has found success in, while receiving a larger contract, before his stock takes any further hits. For Pollard he no longer has to worry about a buyout, has temporary relief from all of this external and internal pressure, and also has an excuse for a bad season or two with a new staff and player attrition.

I was gonna say we could start someone at least $1 million a year...much better than the $650,000 McDermott started at.
