UNLV Basketball

You clearly didn't watch the game....Boise wasn't without their best player. He dropped 28 on UNLV and played 41 minutes. Give this team some time they are freshmen, it's not where you start but where you finish.
Thought RV only had one year to accomplish his collegiate goals.

I know we should worry about the players who are currently on the team, but I saw the game last night with R.Vaughn. How are they 10-7 and 1-3 in the conference. They have loads of talent and are struggling. Makes you wonder about the level of coaching that Dave Rice does over there in LV. It is the MW so there is a chance they can go on a run, but some of the teams out there are solid (SDSU, CSU,NW,Wyoming). I always thought that there was something a little off in his recruitment. He is probably a one and done, so guess going to the tournament might not have been a priority.

Everyone has known this for awhile now. Does less with more. Great recruiter (we $peculate why), but can't coach worth a crap.

I think there's no doubting the kid made a mistake. He's currently playing for an awful team, and his draft stock has taken a major hit. I believe most mocks had him as a lottery pick coming into the year, and now NBAdraft.net has him going 23rd in the 2016 draft, while NBAdraftexpress.com has him going 28th this year. He certainly didn't do himself any favors.

Jesus people, come on. He went somewhere else. Stop acting like jilted lovers.

Rich Eisen is that you??

Boise was without their second best player and the backup for that player and would have beat UNLV handily with them. You are right that they will have to win the conference tourney to make the Dance. They have a 5th year senior transfer at point guard, two projected lottery picks and some other 4 star recruits and look very, very bad. No one does less with more than Dave Rice. But he is an amazing recruiter.
So far, UNLV is underperforming at the end of games. They might get the Scottrade of the Year for poor performance.

They are without one of their starting guards who had been their leading scorer.

It is about where they finish, and they are finished. NIT or CBI team. Book it.

"I'm an ISU fan. The first team I watch is Iowa. And I go haha when they lose. The second team I watch is UNLV. And I go haha when lose. The third team is I watch is Colorado St. And I go haha when they lose.

The fourth team I watch ISU. I feel sad when they lose. Except in football, where I don't care if they lose anymore."

Are you getting therapy for this?

Maybe that is what he wanted so he can go to a decent NBA team vs one that earns a lottery pick by being horrible.

For me it's not simply about RV anymore - however that did open my eyes to what's "going on" at UNLV.

and by that, I mean that since Coach Rice got te head coaching job, they have recruited FANTASTICALLY. Even now that the secret is out of the bag (Rice can't coach his way out of a paper bag), they continue to get top tier recruits.

Now, whether something immoral is going on to attract these kids, or not - it's a situation that I can't appreciate.

I watched UNLV for the first time last night since I couldnt sleep fter I watched the SC/Bama game. If that was the real UNLV team I saw, the NIT might be out of reach. Keep in mind, that Boise team was on a 4 game skid. UNLV looked like they had no real plan all night, and I've never seen a defense give up so many easy layups on drives.

One thing I noticed about Vaughn near the end that I wan't real impressed with was his attitude. Between throwing fits and not trying to run back and stop a break, he seemed immature. From everything I've read/heard, that's the opposite of normal, so maybe he just let the situation get the better of him this time.

I loved the graphic that they put up on the screen last night... showing that UNLV is the leader of the bottom 4 teams in the MWC, Ha!
Maybe RV figures (since he's a 1 and done'r) and entering the draft after this season, he'd have more playing time on team Rice than if he came here. After all, he's in the top 2 for top scorer in the league, to bad his teammates can't help his cause any.

I'm glad this thread was started. There wasn't enough discussion about UNLV basketball happening in the Dave Rice Hot Seat thread or the bajillion Rashad Vaughn threads. Good on ya.

UNLV isn't good enough to trigger the obvious NCAA investigation to take away what they haven't won.

Just read an article that goes over a NBA scout's opinion of various players in college and he had some interesting thoughts on how the UNLV program works. Here's the quote "The thing about those Vegas guys is that if they're truly talented, they'll be better pros than they are college players. They've got zero discipline. Their coach just rolls the ball out there, and I don't say that about a lot of guys. Seriously, though...if you want to be the Runnin' Rebels, that's fine. But have a game plan. He's got 6'11" guys that can't shoot out there taking three-pointers."

Is RV even going to get drafted at this point? I wouldn't touch him at all if I were an NBA GM.
