UNLV at UNI

Depends on their season. The thing is that if they're good enough to get an at-large there's not much of a reason not to win the MVC with Wichita State out of the picture now. Best team in that league besides UNI is... Valpo? Missouri State? Loyola? No one scares you.

That league has been effectively neutered to a one bid league but UNI could be the dominant team forever now.

Jusiton has Big 12 body and would definitely be useful. He'd be getting Beverly's minutes. As for playing UNI, most think they should have trouble with athletic teams. I think hitting 3's, stretching them out, would cause them more problems. Not Cyclone strength, but probably more so than UNLV.

UNI is almost always patient on both ends, which is kryptonite for many young teams. You usually have to work the ball to get a good shot (unless they want you to take it) and not lose focus on defense for long stretches. Will definitely want to get some turnovers and get out and run for a few fast break points.

I think they are absolutely the best team in a 1 bid league. Which means that they must win the MVC tourney.
Say they get a win over ISU... that gives them 2 wins against the P5 and some good showings in other games against P5. But conference play is going to kill their SOS and other bubble teams will have 7-10 wins against P5 competition. I just don't see an at large bid for them. They could have 25 wins and be left out if they don't win the MVC tourney.

Is this correct? The Valley as a conference has the 5th best RPI?

Heard on the radio the other day that the Valley set the record for their best start as a conference this year (must be winning percentage?). No idea what their SOS is in comparison though. Creighton and Wichita State usually hunted for tough match ups though, so that may help in a backward kind of way.

During the game the announcers said the SOS as a conference was really good and the conference had a number of good wins. UNI has played a tough schedule so far with success and Illinois State beat South Carolina. They mentioned a few others but I forgot them and am too lazy to look it up.

I wouldn’t trade that for Lards development though. Juiston is just another guy in the Big 12.
So is Lard right now, but it’s asinine to frame it as a Juiston or Lard situation. We are playing Beverly after all.

You sound like a build the “right way” type with that ridiculous fallacy. Having Juiston doesn’t hinder Lard, it just makes you a better team this year and next.

Say they beat us, and they beat Xavier, and they go 16-2 in conference play before losing in the finals of the MVC tourney. They would get an at large bid with IMO. The scenario I just described would be 28 wins. 25 might not do it like you said though. But an at large bid is on the table with the MVC. It isn't the Atlantic Sun or something.

Did Carlson get a 5th year, or why does it seem like he played in that 18 point second half comeback game at Wells Fargo against Ejim, Kane and company?

He didn't get a 5th year of eligibility, but he did get a redshirt season, so technically he has been a Panther for 5 years.

Nice to see him score some points tonight. Hopefully he can keep it up for the rest of the season.

Yes, I am a dual fan.

He's not afraid to shoot that's for sure. I like his game

I think pressing UNI is a good idea. And you have to use your athleticism and speed to really push the ball every chance you can. If you let them play their game, they can beat you.

Juiston is pretty much Liam Neeson -- he has one skill...

...and damn is he good at sucking down rebounds.

He struggled scoring and on defense against UNI, though, the first team they played with a pulse. We sure could have used him for that alone, I guess.

Not the game I expected from UNI. I thought they would slow down the game, eat up the clock, and work the ball inside for shots/fouls late in the possessions. Nope. They pushed the ball inside early in possessions and Koch and Carlson were looking to shoot, not pass it back out. I think they had something like 50 points between them. Not predictable, but it showed that UNI is not afraid to bring the game inside against taller and more athletic bigs.

Says every team that has played UNI for the past 12 years.

The system simply does not allow you to score in transition. UNI controls tempo with defense, not offense. UNLV pressed most of the second half last night and had 61 points at the end of regulation. NC State and SMU tried to press and played games in the upper 50s.

The team two years ago with Washpun, Jesperson and Bohannon was the exception. They were able to play faster because of Washpun. This year's team is vintage Ben Jacobson basketball. Defend, make the other team shoot jump shots, be highly efficient on the offensive end with two bigs that can score (Koch/Eglseder, Tuttle/Buss, Koch/Carlson)

How many points did A&M come back from when they pressed UNI? Can't seem to remember?

This is the least intimidating guard court at UNI in awhile.
