UNI to drop baseball

Baseball at the colegiate level is worthless. There are enough levels of 'professional' baseball that anybody with talent will get their chance. Kinda like college hockey.

By using that standard most college sports are worthless because there is no pro level to get them ready for. Heck most college BB and FB players never get a wiff of the pros, are those sports worthless. College sports are about more than just getting ready for the pros.

Congrats to Rick Hartzell. He obviously saw the writing on the wall...

Initially, I was pissed at Troy Dannen. After quite a bit of thought, however, I realized it's not his fault. Dannen was by far the least qualified candidate for the UNI AD job, but the Administration needed someone they could control. A yes man, if you will. Basically, Dannen is a puppet. I hope JP gives him a call and tell him how embarrassing not having a baseball program is.

Lastly, this means Iowa wins. Basically, they have a monopoly. If the only reason to keep UNI baseball is to spite the Chokeyes, I say keep UNI baseball.

At least they'll win at something this year.....

18-3 St. Johns mercy rules the Hawks.

St Johns? Thats bad... But like I said, as long as they graduate guys and stay out of the police report, Barta will be happy...

St. Johns won the Big East last year, and was a 40 win team.

However, losing by 15 runs is bad, especially when you give up 12 in the first inning.

And I agree, unfortunately. With all these baseball programs dropping, I suppose I should just be happy that Iowa still has one.

To any Panhter fans out there:

If you lose baseball now, you will never have it again (ask Clone fans). You better fight this with all your might because once it's gone, it's gone for good (when is the last time you've heard a D-I program establish new men's sports???)

Some college are adding wrestling back.

Oregon brought back baseball.

Title 9 is ridiculous; there is not equal interest among women for sports compared to men. I heard someone explain it not too long ago; basically, they distilled it into a simple analogy: if a university were to have open soccer tryouts for 10 women's spots, 20 would show up. If they were to have open tryouts for 10 men's spots, 80 would show up.

I think its really unfortunate when you have to lose "traditional" sports like baseball. I'm not a UNI fan at all, but that makes me sick.

Don't blame this on Title IX, that's sexist and backwards. If you want something to blame, blame football. If schools didn't waste 100 scholarships on dumb football players who don't graduate and won't use their free education once their elgibility runs out, there would be such a wide variety of sports.

Women's sports have been pissed on for way too long. I think equality is good.

BS.

Now that's BS.

Do you know how many football programs actually make money? Hardly any. Football is a huge expense.

Men's collegiate athletic teams have been around for over a century. Women have to get a law passed to so they can field a team? That's awful.

I'm a huge UNI baseball fan. I cannot tell you how sad this news makes me feel. I respect Rick Heller so much I cannot even express my feelings in words. But please don't blame this on Title IX. Blame this on the economy. Blame this on UNI's stepchild-like status in the state of Iowa. Blame this on the McCleod Center. Blame this on donors not giving enough money. Blame this on President Allen, who came from ISU. Don't blame the women. We've already made them second-class citizens once in our country's history. Don't do it again.

I'm not sure where to even begin with this one....

IcSyU has a good start on it.

I'm sure Jamie Pollard would love to cut football and quit losing money on it, as it definitely is not pulling in money for the AD. :jimlad:

Speaking of BS, I guess you should know it. After all, even ISU football makes enough money to pay for itself and help cover the other sports, so that's saying a lot.

Try research. Facts are a good thing.

If football was losing money what sport would be making up to keep the universities in the black?
