I know just win the day and Pine Bluf is next but curious about our little cousins to the north. Had the big win vs UNC..has it ever happened where a lower level team has beaten two top 5 teams in same season? I'd say odds of that are near zero but I guess it's one game at a time. I was more worried about uni game prior to season than Iowa. Cannot afford to have a whole half letdown vs UNI either...although I can't imagine a uni player going off for 30 in a half.

I've rewatched Iowa game couple times now and that first half I noticed 2 things..1- Uthoff was unconscious and that will never happen again..and 2- we were completely uncharacteristic on offense and part of this was due to Iowa shooting 60% in that half and not allowing us to run. After the game I was extremely excited about the win but also worried about the way we came out in that game..after re watching I'm less concerned and chalking it up to once a career night for Uthoff and probably the worst half of bball I've seen these guys play.

Hawk fans will have another chance to cheer against us. This game terrifies me. Two seasons ago we had to overcome what- an 18 point deficit against the purple hawks?

I have watched a few UNI games this year, including the UNC win and their loss to Eustachy and Colorado State. As usual, UNI is a solid and well-coached team this year. They have four main contributors in Wes Washpun, Jeremy Morgan, Paul Jesperson, and Matt Bohannon. Three of those guys are from the state of Iowa (all but Jesperson) and two are high-major program transfers (Washpun from Tennessee and Jesperson from Virginia).

I think it is a game that Iowa State could lose if we walk in expected to be handed a victory, which is what most of the first half looked like last night.

UNI will have a nice test tomorrow at 8:00 playing at New Mexico so that could be worth checking out if your Saturday evening is open. It's on ESPN3.

In 2013, UNI-ISU was the early game; I am hopeful that most of the Hawk fans leave the building after their game with Drake. Of course many will stick around to have the chance to support their alma mater for the first time since they left Cedar Falls.

The real season begins with that game.

Better team than Iowa and we'll have a full strength roster.

Agree. Has a lower level team ever beaten two top 5 teams in a season? Ever? If UNI wins then they should prob be top 10. Yea this game frightens me too. I do think overall they are better than Iowa as well. Iowa has two players that can score...two..just so happens those two were having the best games they've ever had I their career.

It's worth connecting their career runs to being guarded by Nader. He seems to be in that situation a lot, mainly from ignoring actual shooters/scorers.

UNI will be ready. Unlike Fran McCaffery, Ben Jacobsen can coach and won't lose the game for them. We have to a great game in order to win. Sloppy starts can't happen.

The main thing that scares me about UNI is they have an excellent 3 point shooting team......over 42 percent as a team. ISU's perimeter defense will have to be at its very best. I don't think UNI is as strong inside as they were with Tuttle, but they are still a decent team.

Uni scares me. Hope we control the tempo

KenPom would have UNI as the 6th best team in the Big 12 (out of 11) if they were added to the league. Most comparable to Texas' quality.

Sagarin would have them 7th closest to Kansas State.

So this isn't a gimme on a neutral floor like a Drake game would be. But UNI is also not the top 25-quality team that they were last year with Tuttle.

Seems weird and maybe completely wrong, but I feel better about this game now, than if we would have rolled Iowa and Pine Bluff coming into the game.

It'll depend on which ISU team shows up. The we are awesome and should win when we step on the court and everyone else should bow down to us team or the we will cut your heart out and eat it in front you and your fans team.

The good part about this statement is that we seem to play better against teams with good guards rather than teams with good posts... Second chance points are our kryptonite as it completely takes us out of what we do best, (run and gun). Iowa killed us on second chance points last night and the results showed.

Hopefully, the Iowa game is an eye opener that our halfcourt defense needs to be more consistent and guys have to play physical. In the first half last night, we struggled to fight through screens and just weren't very physical on defense.. IMO part of the issue is guys like Niang, Nader and McKay are playing to avoid foul trouble- so they have lost some aggressiveness As a team we need to feel comfortable that if Nader, Niang or McKay get in foul trouble we can still play at a high level.

Burton should help considerably if he can be a steady contributor. We also need to be confident that our shorter lineup with Morris, Long, Thomas and Nader can compete against the likes of KU, OU and Texas.

I like our chances against UNI because the don't have a guy who can matchup against McKay and I think Monte can play tough D against Washpun

Funny, after a game like last night, everyone seems to be showing other schools a little bit more respect before we play 'em. That is the sign of a classic fan base. (Like us) The only thing I can offer is that Marcus Paige didn't play in that UNI game, and UNI also lost @ Richmond 82-67 last Saturday. Richmond is (5-3)

Go Cyclones!

Would not be shocked at all if UNI beats ISU next week. This game scares me.

Finish the non con with 1-2 losses and we are ok.

Winning 1-2 out of uni @cinci and @texas am would be just fine
