UNC it is.

C'mon, that's exaggerating quite a bit. Maybe you haven't been out of the state of Iowa much, but ISU is very well regarded academically around the country.

It's the name factor. It's the basketball portion that makes it true. I agree that we can hold our own in academics, but when you bring UNC BBall into the equation, we lose.

He pulled a stunt. He's slightly full of himself. He wants to cut the apron strings and go to school out of town. Just like a hundred thousand other Iowa high school seniors.

He may never be a Cyclone, but he's a Cyclone son. I'll let the presser go and wish him luck. And keep burning, stomping and sticking needles in my Roy Williams doll...

I dont think most have a problem with the fact that he went to UNC (or at least its not the biggest problem). Its the WAY he did it. Bad move to invite a crowd that would be 90% cyclone fans.

We all love ISU but let's get real, UNC is a top 5 public school in the country, maybe even top 3. Especially in business.

A lot of you should think about this. What if he hadn't made it public? It would have drawn attention, and people would speculate that he was fearing an ISU backlash. He made it public because that's how lots of the biggest prospects do it. I don't think we have any right to feel entitled to him. It's the nature of college recruiting for kids to leave their hometown, no matter what that town did for him. He'll still represent that town and state in the NBA.

I agree with the poster that said McD knew he was taking a risk when opening the doors to the basketball facility, etc. when recruiting Barnes. McD knew he would have to go all out to compete with the other big names going after Barnes. It's unfair to blame Harrison Barnes for not picking us - we had a lot going against us.

Just think some of you need to take a break and chill, especially with the hating. Who knows, maybe he'll still be a Cyclone fan once he's in the NBA and past it.

Edit: Also agree he should have taken ISU out of it a long time ago, since that would have been best for everyone.

Seriously people get over it. To everyone saying HB kicked us in the nuts, no. You let yourselves be kicked in the nuts. I haven't been reading many threads here (hell I can get the jist of the story usually from the 20 threads about him on the front page), but from what I've seen there is no credible reason to think he was coming here.

A common theme I've seen this week is "Oh I didn't really think there was a chance of him coming here... but for absolutely no freak'n reason what so ever, I'm feeling really optomistic this week"

I mean seriously... "Oh my his mom might have smiled at a baker who asked if she wanted red and gold frosting on the cup cakes" SO WHAT??? thats called politely brushing off a joke! Ya'll set yourselves up for this disappointment.

Yeah it'd have been nice if he came here but last I checked we still have a basketball team in Hilton tonight and a football team tomorrow. Quit acting like all of ISU athletics hung on this kid and lets get back to the people we do have - it's not like we lost someone here, we never had him. Too bad, so sad.

He did what he needed to do for himself. Only thing he could have done differently is stood up to the home town pressure and said "Sorry guys, I'm looking to take my career in a different direction" earlier.

Beyond that, Good luck at UNC. I hope the circus leaves town with him

Good freak'n grief people

Quoted for truth. Especially the bolded part.

UNC's business degrees are very, very attractive...especially accounting and finance...

I'm just telling you what he told me. He's a finalist to be a National Merit Scholar and has done a lot of research on colleges.

Yes, that's right. He shouldn't invite them. There are probably people who are Ames High fans first and ISU fans second, but I would guess that those people are in the minority. He's already got Ames High students there, and he can invite family, friends, maybe the Ames High Booster Club if he wants to invite people who really support Ames High. Come on, you know that's how it is. If this were any other town the situation would be different. I mean, even if he lived in Nevada or Boone, even Gilbert it would be different. It is what it is, Ames is where ISU is located and for that reason you -should- take special considerations if you don't want people to get ****** off at you.
Not sure how someone is a fan of something first, I'm a fan of both not one before the other, but this was an Ames High player announcing his decision, had nothing to do with ISU aside from the fact that they were still on the list. Sorry some people can't make that distinction.
