UNC it is.

This. I hope Harrison either rides the bench at UNC or gets flat out owned on the court by other kids in the ACC. If he ends up playing pro ball I hope it is in some crap league in Pakistan. If anyone deserves it, it is Harrison "Chiz" Barnes.
So you're really that petty? That you'd wish that a 17 year old kid would have a ****** life because he didn't choose your school? And I use the term "your" loosely as I hope maybe you'll rethink.

Does this mean UNC will be coming to Ames to play Iowa State? UNC usually schedules a game for each player to play in front of their hometown crowd like when Hansbrough played in St Louis.

So you were there then? 90% of that crowd wasn't from Ames High. I'd guarantee you not a single reporter or neutral party would agree with your 90% Ames High number.

Yes it's true ISU fans showed class by either cheering or doing nothing when he announced UNC.

Yes, I was there. The balcony risers were almost entirely AHS students and staff. The floor riser on my side had the AHS band and almost all students. The floor riser on the other side had a smattering of ISU red. The floor was all reporters and AHS folks. The only place where ISU fans were the majority was in the balcony behind the basket farthest from HB.

I stand by my 90% number. I was surprised myself. If it had been a radically pro-ISU crowd (or even 50% ISU), we would have heard boos (or at least groans). All I heard was loud applause from friends for a friend.

That would be excellent, because I have two nuts and he just got the one.

I actually have pictures of the crowd. I'll post them when I have chance. Your 90% is way way off.

We didn't hear boos because ISU fans actually are classy. I didn't boo.

That seems more accurate given the recent meltdown.

You're wrong here. There were a LOT of people wearing red....two wearing Duke shirts...didn't see any North Carolina shirts surprisingly.

You didn't see one of his friends (five rows up on stage right) wearing Carolina blue and hopping all over the place when the announcement was made. Or how about the guy sitting next to HB's best friend who was running the computer for the projector who had a UNC hat on? He told me it was the only hat he had of the 6 teams.

Of course, there was more ISU red than anything of the other 5 schools, but there was much more AHS orange and black. This event was dominated by the media and his AHS community, not ISU as I expected.

Couldn't agree more with you. With the state of our basketball team, he has a choice of going to be a Cyclone and most probably shoulder the entire team's workload (plus there's no guarantee of going to NCAA tourney every year) or go to UNC where he'll be guaranteed to go to NCAA Tourney every year.

Plus from the education standpoint, UNC is more prestigious than ISU. The finance program is No. 9 in the nation and accounting is no. 10 in the nation according to US News Magazine. Not to take anything away from Iowa State College of Business (I attended CoB and it was and is a good program) but you can't fight the ranking and prestige.

I wish him the best, but my best wishes will be for our Basketball Team !

My nephew visited both UNC and Duke, his assessment on the academic was this. INC is your typical state school. In his opinion it offered nothing more academically than ISU. Duke was impressive though there are only 2 schools - Engineering and Non-Engineering. IMO it came down to his chances of wibni g a national title. One thing I think will be taken bad is that he said a big reason was how well he got along with the UNC players. Didn't he spend a lot of time working out with our team? Unfortunately it's a case of going to the prom with a friend and leaving with hottest girl there if you have a chance.

If the pictures prove me wrong, I will certainly stand corrected. However, the entire west side was almost all AHS and the floor was all AHS and media. The only places I saw significant amounts of ISU red was on the east side and the north balcony.

UNC's business degrees are very, very attractive...especially accounting and finance...

Have to admit that HB seemed to have it all together.

From a marketing stand point it was smart for him to drag ISU into the mix. I don't care what anyone says, there is no way the two biggest TV stations in the state would have televised this circus if ISU wasn't in the mix.

So he can't invite the community that shows up in droves to Ames High games because they also are ISU fans?

Yes, that's right. He shouldn't invite them. There are probably people who are Ames High fans first and ISU fans second, but I would guess that those people are in the minority. He's already got Ames High students there, and he can invite family, friends, maybe the Ames High Booster Club if he wants to invite people who really support Ames High. Come on, you know that's how it is. If this were any other town the situation would be different. I mean, even if he lived in Nevada or Boone, even Gilbert it would be different. It is what it is, Ames is where ISU is located and for that reason you -should- take special considerations if you don't want people to get ****** off at you.

May be true but does it really matter in the end? Here is how I see it.

If he goes to NC
#1 He becomes an NBA player and may win a national championship
#2 It all doesn't work out and he gets a degree and an office job.

If he goes to ISU
#1 He becomes an NBA player and may win a conference championship
#2 It all doesn't work out and he gets a degree and then pretty much is set for life because he's a hometown hero.

He might still play with the ISU players. I don't know, but I'm guessing he's gotten to know some of the ISU players during the process.

Doubtful considering he said he got along with the unc players after only a couple of meetings vs guys he's worked out with over a couple of years.

More like this. Unfortunate, but true. Think about it. For 95% of business people all over the US, a guy walks in in a nice suit and says, "I played basketball for Roy Williams at North Carolina", and he gets a job. Guy walks in with "I played basketball at ISU for Greg McDermott," and he gets an awkward smile. It's an unfortunate reality.

C'mon, that's exaggerating quite a bit. Maybe you haven't been out of the state of Iowa much, but ISU is very well regarded academically around the country.

Seems like a short-sighted way of looking at things. Always respect other people....you never know when those NBA checks start rolling in how large of a donation his mother will then be able to give to ISU. As for us, we have plenty of talent coming in, we'll be fine.

True unless you live in Iowa.
