I have an interest in UK basketball so I read their forums from time to time. Its funny that almost every one of them has a couple threads on UCONN and how they are going to beat them yada yada yada.

Eventually someone will say "well thats if they beat ISU" and people act like we have no chance lol. I get that UCONN is UCONN and were suppose to be scared and all but I find it funny.

Just something I thought interesting.

If I was Kentucky I would much rather play UConn as well. Much more of a "name" even if they aren't as good as ISU. A sexier matchup.

I just hope the team prepares for UConn as well. Although I don't think Calipari is that dumb. Of course in the first (2nd) round anything can happen, but this is not the UConn of last season. A team that goes sub 500 in their own conference doesn't just push the magic button and win because it is the NCAA Tournament. Let KY plan for UConn, cause I want to buy their tickets for Atlanta!

thinking about this and the bracket does give us a nice advantage if we beat UConn. Kentucky currently has 2 teams to scout because of the play in game. If UK looks ahead at all it's towards the Huskies and many coaches have said we're one of the most difficult teams in the country to prepare for.

I'm loving the kind of attention the media/opposing fans are giving us(none). Several ESPN guys talking about what an exciting matchup UCONN/UK will be with no mention of us.. I like this role for our guys who haven't been there. Less pressure..should be able to play better with a nothing to lose mentalitly/a good sized chip on their shoulder.

We can be the team that destroys everyone's brackets. Saturday night, I want most the country to be yelling "**** you Iowa State!" as they tear up their brackets.

I think a lot of people did exactly this that one time 11 years ago when we pooped against *******

I am not sure what you have been watching but I think we have been getting a ton of pub lately...I know some analysts are talking about a potential UConn/UK matchup, but I was watching the bracketology special on ESPN2 yesterday and they spent like 15-20 mins talking about each regions 1st round (not calling it 2nd round) matchups and they spent at least 5 good mins talking about ISU vs UConn. And it wasn't all about UConn either. Then I took a look at CBS website and watched Rothstein (sp?) and Wally Z discuss our game and Wally picked us to win (even though he accidently called us Ohio State, ugh).

Don't get me wrong, I think we can use the disrespect card all we want, but Royce and the Mayor have people taking notice now and we should not shock anyone by beating UConn.

We did it to the BCS in football! We can do it again with NCAA basketball.

Like it or not regardless of seeding an ISU win would be an upset in the minds of most basketball fans. Heck the "experts" even think UCONN is good enough to beat UK, but most wouldn't give us a shot. Oh well, I guess it will make things that much sweeter when they find out we're no pushover.

I understand Iowa state not getting any respect, because we have not done anything big for a while. Plus a lot fans here think we can show up and beat Uconn, even though they are below 500 in conference play, they play in the best basketball conference and lost a lot of close games. Everything has to go right for us to win against them

Other people being mad at ISU doesn't bother me. It is the fact that I will have to be competing against over ISU fans, who also picked the same thing, to win my pools.

Also, people hate when their brackets are busted for a little while but will usually cheer for an underdog in the tourney at that point. I will also take all the publicity it brings.
