Two missing girls

My guess it was a river that was damed. They are just opening the dam all the way.

Nope, it's a spring-fed fill pond created when they put the interstate in. The Cedar River is across the road from the pond and they are using pumps to dump the water into the river.

Article in the WCFCourier makes it sounds like there is a drain (assuming some sort of dam) that they opened and the water just started draining out-

FRESH PICTURES The hunt for Lyric and Elizabeth continues; Meyers Lake being drained

"Rick Reuter, Evansdale’s code enforcement officer and part-time police officer, among other jobs in town, helped open the gate on the drain outlet. He said normally it takes a week or two to drain the body of water when the Cedar River is running normal or high.
“It was roaring; the back pressure isn’t there,â€￾ Reuter said. “The ground shook when we first opened it. It has some power.â€￾
Officials said grates on the outlet tube several feet in circumference won’t let anything of size pass through."

I went by Myers Lake about an hour ago and it is really going down fast.
Still praying for the best.

The police have taped off a section of the lake. Possible search at nearby landfill.

This is a mess.

Unspeakably sad. My daughters spend a ton of time near water and anything can happen.

I didn't realize until just looking at Google earth that the lake is directly adjacent to Highway 20, and that its essentially right in a neighborhood with really very few trees around. Looking at the location it seems strange that anybody could easily take TWO girls without somebody seeing this, unless they went freely with somebody they know.

I've attached the Google Earth view here (hopefully).

Have the families been questioned? I don't mean to offend anyone it's very possible a family member is involved

It was mentioned in one of the first articles that they were accounted for at the time the girls went missing.
Unfortunately, that was one of my first thoughts too due to other cases of missing children

Surprising number of registered sex offenders listed near the lake on River Forest road. I'm sure that's where the detectives are focusing a lot of their time.

From the articles that I've read they have all been ruled out. I believe that the same article said that family members and registered sex offenders were the first people they ruled out.

"They (the dogs) both picked up scents, followed it for quite a ways and from our understanding authorities were very pleased with the outcome. They needed to go back and debrief and discuss what the movement of the dogs meant."

sounds like maybe the girls went playing somewhere away from where their bikes were.

I read this too. I'm not sure what it means. They were "pleased"? Did the dogs find something? Did it lead to a clue? I'm interested to learn what this means.

"Pleased" sure is a strange word choice given the likely set of outcomes in this case...
