Twister Towels!

I actually emailed Pollard on this idea last year along with giving out those thunder sticks but he mentioned to me how expensive it was to do something like that. And he brought up the free T-shirts to the students as being a cost the absorbed as well. So I'm extremely glad that he and the marketing department figured out a way to make at least the towels happen this year!

No thunder sticks please, all you need is some 10 year old next to you banging those the whole game to cure you of that desire. We played at Northern Illinois in Dekalb in 03 and their crowd had those freebies. In my opinion, thunder sticks are the most bush league way a team can try to create a home field advantage. We are way above that.

The fine print on the back of the tickets state that artifical noise makers are prohibited.

I am in section 19. We are fairly roudy, but out biggest concern is that we sit next to an isle and we constantly have people going up the steps or down the steps and it makes it hard to watch the game. Sometimes I feel like tripping one and seeing how many will fall on down the steps. And they come to the game late so we can't see the opening kickoff and leave early at half time and come back later after. I spent good money to watch the game, not the fans going up and down the steps blocking my view. A good view from the front or rear of a young female fan is appreciated, however.

I like the idea and would like to get mine! The only home game I'll be able to make this year will be the UNI game. Does anyone know if there is a possibility of purchasing them after the season opener?

I'm not sure about purchasing that specific towel, I do remember that the book store is selling 2 rally towels right now, one with the fight song on it, and I think the other is the "Twister Towel" or one similar to it...

Extremely Pathetic.. But I have Sect 1.... Not a bad time I have to admit. Also close to a bunch of recent broke grads that like to drink....

Yes they are selling the Twister Towels at the book store for $4 each...I bought two weeks ago before I found out they would be handing them out for free  Oh well now maybe my wife and I will have 4 total...one for each hand.

I think this is actually one of the best ideas marketing has ever come up with. After all what better way can the fans represent a Cyclone than with 50,000 towels swirling around. That's why we don't have a mascot dressed up in a rubber Cyclone outfit, that would look stupid. Of all the times we've seen this done before (e.g the Steelers' terrible towels), this applies best to us. If you've ever been in an arena where everyone has one of these, its actually pretty cool. It does create a little bit of a breeze.

Let's not forget what started it all, the Minnesota Twins' Homer Hankies. I have ones from my birthyear in 1987, and also 2004 and 2006. I was lucky enough to attend one of the ALDS games in '04 against the Yankees, and that place is just electric with 56k people waving around the hankies. Hopefully the Twister Towels will take off and have a similar effect.

Well, we were informed that the towels will be an official part of the Marching Band uniform once we get them during the first game, so..

The band will definitely have em!

They gave out gold towels in 96'. They were very good quality. I saw the new ones in Ames and theyre kinda chinsy, but theyre free, so who cares. Plus i bought another towel w/ the fight song on it earlier, so if the cheap one shreads, ill have backup.

Has anyone watched a hockey game when the home team scores and everyone is waving their towels together. I think that is the coolest thing is sports. Only if this could do the same thing.

I actually got a homer hanky last weekend. The Twinnies got smoke 5-0 though.

The towels sound like a good idea... but I would also like to spread the word on bringing your "pocket aces" this year to the games... just grab any ace card from any ordinary deck of cards and pocket it for each game in support of the Cyclone defense and Alvin "ACE" Bowen #15. Preseason all Big 12 and last years nation leading tackler.

I bought numerous decks of 52 cards all Ace of Spades online and will pass a few out at the games and tailgate...

Hold em up high ! ACE !
"Pocket Aces" for Ace #15 and the Defense !

Go clones... can't wait till Thursday

I was stoked about this game and the whole season, but this takes it even higher! How cool is this going to look with everyone waving their twister towel and creating a "big time" environment that we've only gotten to see on TV in the past? Not only will we have our towels every game, we'll be standing up, yelling, and waving them as well. I hope they provide some sections with detailed instructions on their "expected" level of participation :)
