Trent Condon

All I’m gonna say is while there has been outrage on our part about bad calls, there has not ever been this level in both amount and duration of continuous whining and complaining.

I'm still pissed about the KSU picked up flag debacle in 2017.

Only saving grace is that ISU had opportunities to not even let that be a problem (continuing to run the ball since KSU had one TO left).

I also don't think it got the attention this one is getting and this one is much less controversial since they just simply got the call right.

None of ours has been talked about like this ad nauseam for days going on a week, especially the media. I don’t think their fan base can call us whiners anymore; what they’ve traditionally done.

Morning brain dump here:

  • Overall I like Trent and have always loved his passion for sports and how hard he works. He usually gets details correct, does his research, and comes prepared to talk sports. I appreciate he's open and honest about his Hawk fandom and he is usually objective with ISU takes except for when he forgets he's hosting a radio show and starts talking as a Hawk fan.
  • Trent definitely was talking as a Hawk fan the first segment of Monday's show. Miller was the voice of reason and Trent refused to see it any other way. It was funny but a little sad. However, I've been that way with ISU. I get it...we're fans of our teams. We treat them like a family member. You come after family, we are prepared to fight.
  • After 20-25 minutes, Trent calmed down and realized he is seeing it through black and yellow glasses and some what reluctantly is facing a bigger/glaring issue that the game should never have come down to needing that call to go their way.
  • What should outrage Iowa fans 10x that call is the fact that you simply knew the game was over vs. seeing if your offense could somehow fall over a few times to get enough yards for a FG.
  • Re-watching the play, his arm seems to go higher than previously thought and I've never seen a person naturally run that way.
  • Was hearing comments "if that play stands, we're talking Heisman votes".....what I saw after watching that play a few times was Minnesota players overcommitting and falling all over themselves. What struck me was how pathetic the tackling was and how out of position they were.

For evidence of this, just go back a few weeks to the field goal at Ohio. Our fanbase was pissed at first because the kick looks good, but for the most part, we quickly accepted that the rulebook explicitly states it can't be reviewed. So that's that.

My expectation for the Iowa fanbase was already low, but their insistence on arguing the most basic rules surrounding that punt is just mind blowing to me. I honestly didn't think they were this stupid, and now I am embarrassed that I gave them more intellectual credit than they deserved.

My favorite part of the ordeal is when Hawkeye fans are showing their ass and showing they don't know ball.

"IT WASN'T A FAIR CATCH!!"

"You're right, it wasn't a fair catch. It was an invalid fair catch. Two different things pal."
Talking to some Iowa fans at the Vikings-49ers game Monday Night, they were saying "you can't review a penalty!!!!" and I kindly informed them that it wasn't a penalty, it was an invalid fair catch signal and the ball was dead once Cooper picked it up.

I firmly remember the local media calling that bad play calling....

A lot of that was from how Kirk carried himself in the post game presser. He knows the f*cking rules. He knows that once Cooper signals a fire call that the ball is no longer returnable. Kirks presser has caused 90% of the outrage from the fans as well as the local media.

The last DB heisman finalist was Tyrann Mathieu in 2011. He wasn't getting heisman votes. No.

Oh my god our light rail car after the game was full of Hawks crying about the TD debacle. JFC get over it. How many times does it have to be explained?

You can review some penalties though, illegal touching can be reviewed. Targeting gets reviewed... it can happen.

I've had that same convo more times than I can count. I've explained it like this: "if they review a play because they think the runner stepped out at the 20, but the review shows he stepped out at the 10, the ball is placed at the 10 and no one says another word about it. Essentially this is the same thing..."

Props to the Kickin' It podcast for some unabashed Hawkeye hate. GM has exceeded expectations on that podcast, seems like a chill dude that just brings heat for the clones. It's fun getting a mix with the more level headed journalist takes.

Edit: I'm not sure why I posted in this threaded, apparently it popped in my head while reading this.

Trent is the prototypical UNI alum/Hawkeye fan.
I realized recently that he’s from Osage, and I’m from a small town very close to Osage. I know Trent’s just a shade older than me. I looked him up on Facebook, and unsurprisingly we have a lot of mutual friends, including some cousins of mine who were classmates of his. He looked super familiar too. Then it hit me.

I was at a party at said cousin’s house in Cedar Falls on Jan/Feb of 2006. We had waxed Iowa in both revenue sports that year, and I happened to have an ISU hoodie on that night.

Some guy in Iowa gear at the keg starts talking CyHawk ****, and of course I take the bait and a heated debate ensues. This guy was just a stereotypical douche bag PurpleHawk with all the usual talking points.

After seeing his picture, I realized that’s where I recognized him from. He was that dbag PurpleHawk. I’m sure he’s grown up since then (so have I), but it was just kinda funny that he was absolutely the typical Purple Hawk.

I generally like him on the radio, but he’s unhinged right now. That **** he’s saying on LockedIn sounds legitimately psychotic and paranoid/delusional. It’s too bad because he’s pretty good when he sets the homerism aside.

Just like his stupid commercial Trent is a huge ASSet. I'm working during the day so I don't listen to it but the times I happen to be in the car when the show is on and he's talking is usually a good time to turn the channel most days. Right up there with Matt Perrault and Marty Tirrell as biggest tool that has been on KXNO

One of my favorite recent Condon moments was him pretending to not know Haliburton was an All-Star.

He claimed to have watched the game but didn't know about a player who scored 18 points. His co-host was just dumbfounded and he kept digging in.
