Traverse City, MI

Been a while, but Filling Station was good. I believe it has been updated a bit since I was there, but it's in a old train depot, very unique and fun atmosphere.

If you've never been, I'd recommend a trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Its about a 30-45 minute drive to the west coast line, but if you enjoy hiking/activity, it is a great national park imo. To that point, though, there are plenty of dunes to see if you are trying to. Sleeping Bear would just probably be the closest.

If you play golf, some of the best public courses in the USA are in NW Michigan.

I spent 10 days in Michigan last summer, we golfed 7 of the days. Played 14 rounds, most in the northwest part of the state. It was incredible. Didn't play a bad course, definitely played some incredible ones. My arms were like noodles by day four but we pressed on.

Since it is 108* here right now, I would love to be back there again.

Sleeping Bear Dunes and Torch Lake are as good as scenery gets in middle America.
Frankfort is a nice little beach town about an hour south of Traverse.

Where'd you play? I played Arcadia Bluffs a few years back and it was one of the most beautiful courses I've ever played. (probably THE one) Couldn't hit a straight drive to save my life though:mad:

Boone's Long Lake Inn for steak(massive Portions)
Moomer's Ice Cream is the best ever
Apache Trout Grill for Fish(Fish Tacos are insane)
Fish Town in Leeland is great day trip
Golfing is great as they have two Nicklaus courses at the Grand Traverse Resort
Torch Lake is an amazing inland lake, Caribbean like waters
Right Brain Brewery is super cool with great beer
Ton's of Wine tasting everywhere and fresh fruit at roadside stands
Sutton's Bay is really close and cool town. The actually have a brew pub there, Hop Lots, that has biking trails and fire pits on site.

Let me know if you need more, been up there dozens of times

We stayed at Boyne Highlands outside of Petosky, and about half of our rounds were played there. It's an incredible deal to stay there - we had a 4 bedroom "cottage" that was fully furnished and could have slept 12. $1150/person (four of us) for 5 nights, breakfast, dinner and golf included. The only thing we had to pay for while we were there was lunch (because you usually weren't on site) and beer.

We played:
Arcadia Bluffs
Crooked Tree Golf Club
The Heather
The Moor
Arthur Hills
Forest Dunes
Lochenheath
Donald Ross Memorial
Eagle Crest
Apple Mountain
Bay Harbor

Of the group, Forest Dunes was the best pure golf course. Arcadia Bluffs was the prettiest, though some holes were a bit hokey. Lochenheath was excellent, and Bay Harbor lived up to its' reputation.

It was me and three other golf junkies. Helluva trip. Would do it again in a heartbeat......

....but would NOT play 36 holes 7 straight days. Too much.

Echo a lot that was said especially Sleeping Bear Dunes and the drive to Old Mission Lighthouse, scenic up the peninsula. On the way there or back eat at Jolly Pumpkin Restaurant and Brewery or the Boathouse. It is cherry season (over 100 million pounds of cherries each year in area) so stop at many roadside markets for great cherries. Cherry Republic for lunch and all things cherry on Front Street. Grand Traverse Pie Company supposed to be great. Can also drive up another peninsula to Leelanau State Park and the Grand Traverse Lighthouse. Don's Drive In for an old time drive in.

Great part of the country, you will have a good time.

******* cherry season man. I'd go up to Northern Michigan with my family every summer as a kid and the amount of cherry inspired candies/foods I've eaten because of it is probably up there with anyone outside of Michigan lol. Lots of great stuff though, they really know how to use their cherries.

To OP. If driving through it, it may be worth the stop at the original Cherry Hut in Beulah. This logo is ingrained in my brain from seeing it so much as a child lol
