Transfer? U Bet Your A**!

Despite what seems like an attempt to oppose me I actually like a lot of what you said. You're right, I should probably not let my irrational Hawk fan friends get me worked up and on the defensive. I have never been naive enough to imply or even entertain the idea that athletes all over the country aren't smoking pot on a regular basis. If I somehow implied that, I apologize.

Georges, Naz and Monte are all HS guys and them being such big parts of this team is awesome! As you said, if others would educate themselves the Transfer U thing would go away. This a very valid point that I neglected to mention in my post, but not to the idiots that want to discredit our success due to their black and gold envy.

I hope the transfer U thing doesn't go away. What are you embarrassed about? How many weeks (soon we'll say years) in a row have we been ranked?

literally the only people that have a problem with the transfers is Iowa fans, and their "problem" with it all stems from a very sad butthurty jealous place.

no negative stigma exists when the transfers we take in come here and don't have problems. we've had what, 10 transfers now under CFH? how many of those 10 have had issues. 2? a DUI and a noise complaint. find me a program that is both successful and hasn't had a couple problems in 4 1/2 years. I'm gonna step out on a limb and say that any negative stigma that exist is only acknowledged by a small groups of haters. You sure as hell dont see ESPN reporting "ISU continues to win the wrong way..."

I think everyone should take this advice. If someone is hyper critical of ISU they are probably an Iowa fan. You shouldn't tailor your attitudes about ISU to conform to your rival's attitudes, anymore than you should tailor your morals to please the devil.

I don't see it as a negative stigma at all, in fact quite positive. Higher profile schools are now looking at transfers, partially because I think it worked so well with Fred.

You guys are right. I am guilty of lumping the masses opinion into that of my Hawk friends' opinion. I don't hear other fan bases besides theirs but I would bet there are others that spew the same garbage (out of jealousy as well). I don't want top 25 teams to go away or NCAA tournament runs to go away and I am all for using transfers to accomplish that. We're on the same side here, I am 100% on the same page. As I said, I allow the negative opinion of Hawks fans to speak for the masses. I am guilty as charged.

This is the bigger problem IMO.

Ugh, I thought this was going to be about Deonte Burton coming to ISU. I didn't read past Royce White...

I think it would be too early, because of finals or whatnot, but i was hoping this thread would be about Semi Ojeleye would be visiting and or signing.

Melvin Ejim, George Niang, Monte Morris, Nazi Long, Matt Thomas, Clayton Custer, The Greek thank them for coming too...And would like everyone to know Fred does a great job developing the 4 year kids too. :-)

Royce White couldn't stay out of trouble long enough to play at Minnesota. Korie Lucious and Chris Allen were potheads (not an uncommon thing for college kids), Tom Izzo told them to take a hike. Deandre Kane was such a "cancer" to the team at Marshall that he and the program parted ways.

They were not welcome elsewhere. They could not be "reigned in". They were looking for a place to make things right and make an impact, Fred gave them that chance. Each of them were major contributors on teams that took the next step towards returning ISU to the glory of yesteryear.

As fans we should not have to defend our program for giving guys a second (or third) chance. Transfer U should not be a derogatory term associated with "troubled kids" or "misfits" or (my favorite) "thugs". Transfer U should be a label worn as a badge of honor. It should speak to the success on the court and it should speak to the character and leadership ability of our coach. Others gave up, Fred buckled up and provided a place to shine. And all of them did!

Our friends in the eastern part of the state, and others, should be asking Fred for the blueprint. They should be wishing their coach had the sack and the ability to take a kid from the scrap heap, to The Dance. From the role of "cancer", to the role of leader.

BDJ's most recent hiccup included, it is all part of the journey of allowing kids to grow. So when others contort their faces into a nose in the air inquiry of Transfer? I will reply U Bet You A**.

The negative stigma is what I want to go away.

Frankly, to some degree, I consider “transfer U” to be a term of endearment. We need to consider that we are talking about world-class athletes who by extension have acknowledged they errored in their original university commitment. Now, from a more enlightened perspective, they are attempting to correct that error by enrolling in ISU. I find that to be a tribute to CFH and ISU. Annually, Fred melds together a group of transfers and top flight recruits that generally become as respected for their off-court character as they are for their on-court performance mediating both pedagogical and philosophical strategies into a wining formulation worthy of emulation across all coaching platforms.

Granted, we will periodically have to deal with sadists who derive pleasure from attempting to demean or humiliate others. These people are to be pitied and we need to understand that dysfunction in the home leads to emotional instability, mental illness, gross narcissism and often the type of sadistic behavior with which you are concerned. I would say to let Fred’s strategy and winning record speak for itself. Go Cyclones!

To the OP: well said. Your post made me think of one of my favorite TV shows "Friday Night Lights". In that show Coach Eric Taylor was not only a coach but a mentor and role model for all of his players. The finale had a great scene in which one of his players said to him "you saved my life, Coach." I realize this is dramatic, but it's not too far-fetched to think that Fred could have that kind of impact on someone. A guy who's going down the wrong path, kicked out of his program and down on his luck because of his own doings. They may not be the most upstanding men in the world after they leave, but they got what many others don't: a second chance, and they've done well with it.

Ask CFH or the men he's brought here what they think of the term. I'd bet they wear it as a badge of honor.

Sorry guys, I actually enjoy writing and wanted to share something I had written with my fellow Cyclones. Sorry it doesn't meet the approval of 3 people who combined to muster up 7 words as replies. Thanks for reading though.
You witnessed three wild trolls, feeding in their natural habitat. If they truly thought your post sucked, they would have ignored it and let it fade into page 2 obscurity .

When have I ever trolled in over 8 years of CF? OP didn't pose a question but I responded how I saw fit. Had I said "bump" because the thread was sitting motionless no one would've said **** but I put a positive twist to it and I get called a troll. Wow guys.
