Until now.....OR 'if' and when CMC departs...it will stink as to how 'easy' players may just go with him (or elsewhere). Dont get me wrong, I was all for the new rule because I thought it was what is best for the players. And I still am. They deserve to not have to sit out, because coaches can opt out of contracts and go elsewhere and not sit out. But the latest coaching carousel has sure put new meaning on that. Not saying its wrong, I'm still all for what's best for the players, but just think about it.... Riley can suddenly leave for USC knowing full well that stud freshmen quarterback Caleb Williams can go right with him, among plenty of other OU players. Not to mention California recruits that were going out of state but can transfer instead to USC.

Is it possible these coaching changes are going to happen more frequently now due to the ease of taking players with you? I know some fans have been relishing in the OU decommitments so far, and I don't blame them. Screw TX and OU. But if it happens to us in the near future, it certainly wont be so pleasant.

The only thing allowing players to transfer without sitting is COVID year no? Or was that updated as well?

I can't keep track anymore.

Oh...do I have it wrong? I thought all sports allowed a 1-time transfer w/o sitting out regardless of covid or any other reason.

Is there any application or waiver, or is it no questions asked transfer without sitting?
First time is strictly fill in the paperwork and it is done. There is no decision in someone else’s hands. Any subsequent transfers fall back into the old process but even then the NCAA has really opened up the spigot and approve the vast majority

It may lead to some harsh results but with the apparent ability of a coach to leave on a moment's notice I have no issue affording the players the same opportunity.
I would be ok with the rule being updated to prohibit athlete from transferring to where the coach has moved.

Caleb Grill.

Campbell isn’t leaving but if he did you think he’s taking a bunch of players with him to Notre Dame? Think about it for a minute.

The players should never be penalized in a coaching change scenario.

The real challenge is being handed down to the replacement coach to recruit and fill a roster on a shortened timetable. The transfer rules are merely shortening the recruiting process for a certain percentage of the players. Yeah, it's easier to lose them, but it's also easier to pick them up.

Finding the right coach that can coach as well as adapt to the changing tides of recruiting is becoming more and more critical.

It's unfortunate because either way it punishes some players. With easy transfers, players for the old coaching regime get squeezed out and those at the coach's previous university get left with a decimated and uncompetitive team.

That's ridiculous. Most of these players are committing to a coach moreso than the school, and they should be punished because the person they committed to is leaving?
That's the kind of thinking that got the NCAA dragged into court multiple times.

Here's the reality, if you think that more restrictions on player movement are going to happen, you haven't been paying attention to the way this is going.

The second the NCAA or a conference tries to institute more restrictive transfer rules, they're going to get sued. There are plenty of lawyers just begging for it. The NCAA knows it. So do the schools. And that's why it won't happen. The emperor has very few clothes left as it is.
