I think Minnesota is actually doing a fairly good job of handling this. They could have done a lot better earlier, but by not giving in to the players and firing the coach pretty quickly, they've definitely gone the opposite direction of Baylor and Penn State
That would be a great hire for them and would hopefully help them move up the pecking order of the big 10

This has been handled about as poorly as possible. I don't think it's a bad decision, but Minnesota's Athletic Department could not look worse. Rough stretch for men's sports.
No kidding, sex tape of the basketball team, drug abuse in the wrestling program, and rape on the football team. I'd be embarrassed to be a gopher grad.
I assume they waited until after Jan 1 to save the 1/2 mil on coaches buyouts. Also hope this wasn't just done to appease the critics up there who never went to games anyway.
Claeys' lack of control over his players, and his "could never be prouder" tweet did him in.
How could you think this wasn't done to appease critics? He had a huge amount of on-field success. What else could you think this was about? Perception and winning and not necessarily in that order based on program history and location. They are going to lose for a while because of this firing, perception is the only reason to make it. I don't disagree with the decisions, but as was said earlier, you didn't want to be the next coach at this university to embroil your team in a scandal.
Yea, the tweet was the killer. I actually thought TC brought some good things to the program but somebody had to get fired when the AD has the PR problems it has. Surprised Pitino survived the UM decision making process.
I would compare it to the Baylor situation. Baylor did not want to fire Briles. The only reason they did was because it kept being in the spotlight and the critics and media attention wasn't backing down. If that attention had gone away, they would have kept him. I'm not up in Minnesota, but it seems like the national attention on this had died down and pretty much gone away. If Minnesota wanted to, they probably could have outlasted the critics. I think the reason they fired him was because they knew that their coach supporting boycotting players wasn't a good look and also because there had been that rift between him, and the AD and University. The critics will support that move, but I agree with Tornado, I don't believe they did it just to appease critics
If you're going to fire him fine, but it should have been done 2-3 weeks ago. I see there was going to be a big campus march/demonstration tomorrow night.
Signing day in about a month - and Minn has no coach. Sheesh...

Fleck is a good fit for Minnesota. He'll do well there, and I can see him bringing in much better recruits.
Obviously there are many lakes in Minnesota for PJ. #RTB
