Does anyone know if either the high school or university tracks are open to the public? I would like to do some training but can't find any information on if they are ever open to the public.

University track is open to the public but reserved for the ISU XC/Track team from 2-6 pm I believe. But as long as the team isn't using it I've been able to get on it in that window without a problem.

The university track, ie Lied or State Gym is not open to the public for use for free. You need to be a pass holder to access the facility to use the track. If you have a pass then you can use it but the general public just can't go into Lied and get on the track without a pass or paying for a day pass.

I want to run outside. I will check out the Iowa State track sometime to see if I can get on it.

I used to run on the bike path that went past the middle school and people were regularly using the track there

I'm talking about the ISU outdoor track by the softball complex. It is open to the public. Just have to avoid the times it's reserved for team use.

Our local school will let you run on their track any time you want and free of charge.................if you clear the 6 foot snow drifts off it.

I used this track as well whenever the team wasn't using it.

I'm pretty sure the track at the middle/high school is open to use whenever. However, I wouldn't go during school hours or practicing.
