Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Just saw that Iowa hosted two recruits for their game against Minnesota this past Sunday.

Can you imagine bringing someone in to that mausoleum on Super Bowl Sunday, in front of tens of hundreds of fans, and then saying "What do you think? Do you want to be a Hawkeye?"

Then again, Fran really knows how to make a pitch to goofy looking guys like this, so maybe it'll work.

They look really excited to be there LOL. That is a picture of 1,000 words. Let's bring our recruits to a game against a crappy opponent with no fans around them in the worst environment imaginable. Man, I love Fran.

On a day that many would have other things going on also.

I'm sure in some delusional hok's mind they were thinking, "Minnesota is one of our biggest rivals, so The Car Veers will be packed* with rabid fans**. That will convince these kids that this is the place to be."

* Weekend games have more than 3,000 attendees!
** Bringing their knitting or novels.

I'm a biased homer of course but I've watched a lot of Big 12 games this year to check out the new teams, and they're just such intense and exciting games for the most part, fast and physical even among the teams outside the top half. Then I watch the Big 10 and it's like the CIML in comparison.

Hey, the CIML is better than that....

I am calling the upset for the hoks today.

This is a classic upset setup for EIU. They are out of the tourney, period. No one is playing worse in the B1G. They are at home and will probably have enough people in CHA to fill the lower half of the seats making it look sold out.

Harding or Dix will go CC from 3 range.

Iowa wins by 5 - and then - we get the nauseating narrative. The hoks have righted the ship, the should be stars have shown up. They are playing as good as anyone in the B1G. If they can run the table and/or the tourney, they are in and will be a dangerous 10/11 seed in the tourney.

I am fine with it if it keeps Fran there.

Then we’d have to listen to them tell us the play in game does count.

It sure sets up pretty well for them. Desperate AF against a team that is regressing. Chance for a win to change the trajectory of the season and at the expense of a heated rival.

After typing all that I am not sure who ‘them’ is. Wisconsin or Iowa?

Crazy the Wisco game is sold out. Usually Iowa runs their typical "Throw Back to Covid Attendance " promotion

The will garlock fella is a lock to Iowa based on looks
Agree! I am not surprised both visitors were bigs. Fran never prioritizes guards, which is one of the several reasons he can’t get out of the first weekend of the tournament. March is a guards game and he can’t seem to figure that out.

We like to poke fun at them for attendance, but they have enough Sunday/weird day of the week home games that I could see why their fans would want to take advantage of a Saturday afternoon game. Against a hated rival to boot.
