Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Iowa is like a boxer with a knockout power. Because they have shooters and good offensive players, they have a puncher’s chance in every game.
Good analogy. That’s what has kept Fran around for 14 years. There’s very little chance of that strategy leading to winning anything meaningful. At some point you have to get stops. He got his one B1G tournament title and that’s it.

It is not a way to win on consistent basis but they can win against anyone when their shooters get hot.

What’s interesting, though, is that Fran hasn’t really pulled off a lot of huge upsets. He’s mostly feasted on the bottom half of the B1G to get into the Tournament.

Their shooting is not great statistically speaking. Dix and Sandfort are they only ones with any meaningful amount of attempts that are shooting better than 33% from deep.

Sandfort is 37% on over 7 attempts per game (he takes nearly twice as many 3s as 2s). Dix is around 42% but on less than 2 attempts.

Not exactly elite shooting.

As a team they’re 199th in the country from 3. For reference we are 81st.

For the year (I think going into today) they’ve taken 23 more and made 4 less than us.

This is one of my favorite seasons of Iowa MBB. Caught fire and everyone's picking them as a trendy Final Four darkhorse, loses in the first round to Richmond!

That sh*tty game moved Iowa up 6 in NET and dropped Illinois 5.
Iowa at #61 now.

Don't look now but that game didn't hurt them. Minnesota is now a Q1 win, since they are NET ranked 74, so they have 3 of them. I don't think they'll win their last 3, but if they do that'd be 5 Q1 wins and they'd be 19-12. Is that a whole lot worse than Ole Miss or any of these other bubble teams? Tournament starts right now for them basically - they win 4 in a row I think they are in. Can they? I don't think they beat NW on the road, but they do have a path.

After Minny loses tonight, they drop back to Q2. and with 2 more losses left on the Minny schedule, they should stay there. Plus, Iowa is not winning at NW, so they MAY end up with 3 Q1 wins at end of regular season.

Yep that's exactly what it will take. Win last 3 of regular season and 1 in conference tournament. Only other scenario i could see is win 2 of 3 and get to Conference tournament championship and that might get you to Dayton. Either way can't see it

It’s also important to remember Iowa has a double digit home loss to an atrocious Michigan team which is 122 in NET (quad 3). I wouldn’t be surprised if a loss that bad basically cancels out one of your quad 1 wins in the eyes of the committee.

It was truly one of the great weekends of my life as an Iowa State fan. Our men's and women's teams go to the Sweet 16 while both Hawkeyes teams fell on their face. And Iowa fans were so excited while we were just a lowly 11 seed that took out the Big 10 champion.

I gotta give Iowa and Fran a ton of credit though…. they’ve had a great season considering the B1G has been as good as it’s EVER been…. at least that’s what Fran said yesterday, and I trust him!

Goetz might wanna give Frannie one of those secret behind the door extensions like Barta was known for?

If we restrict the timeframe to Fran's Iowa career, I actually think I agree this is about as good as the Big 10 has ever been. One great team, two fringe Top 25 teams, and a bunch of mids/bads.
