too much depth

can we keep all the WR and RB happy, how about trying some on defense

Too late for that kind of adjustment ... barring horrible health news now through the season.

In regards to the depth at RB .. right now that is a good thing, lots of fresh and eager legs to fill in for ARob when needed.

As far at the WR position, we need many quality WRs for this system, you really can't have too many and I would say we have enough to make the right decision on the lineups.

We don't have "too much depth" at either of these positions right now, we're just beginning to look like a team with Big XII depth.

I'd LOVE to see some of this supposed depth at the WR position do something. Every year we talk about how deep we are there, and every year that position as a whole completely underperforms. A lot of the passing woes last year fell on the WRs. They need to improve this year in a big way.

Great point, no need for talk of "too much depth" until we start producing NFL prospects and our underclassmen are bailing. Otherwise there will be plenty of opportunity for the talented and hardworking.

I remember this time last year everyone was talking about the great depth that we had at receiver and running back (ARob, Blankenship, Williams, and it seems horrible but I can't remember the name of the kid that transferred) and we ended up really hurting in both places. ARob got hurt and no one really could step up and fill in. At the end of the year, our best reveiver ended up being a guy that no one had even heard of in Jake Williams because our "great depth" didn't produce at all.

Getting back to the original question; RB, WR, OL, DL and CB are all positions where there is no such thing as too much depth.

You guys are forgetting that with our depth at WR was severely impacted by Money, Darks, and Johnson all getting digned up (Money broke his leg after a great start as well). Lenz and Williams were the surprise guys.

Hopefully it's making for some good competition in practices. I think a clear starting 11 makes for less competition. I want everyone believing they should be the #1 guy.

The offense is going to be on the field so much this year that they'll all be dead tired from all the carries and receptions that each of them are getting.

youre right. and when the system sometimes requires 5 wide receivers on one play- its tough to ask your 8th man to step in and be a playmaker. No one in the whole country has "good" players 5-8 guys deep.

I could definitely handle ARob getting a few less carries a game if it means he plays healthy all 12-13 games. He'd have been approaching AA type #s last year if he could have done that, certainly unanimous All Big 12 last year if he doesn't miss time.

That is why we need to throw to Colin Franklin more. He is a weapon. That is up to AA to get it to him.

No such thing as "too much depth." it does not qualify in college sports. If one pro team had Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady and didn't trade one or two of them to get better players at other positions then yes, that would apply. In the college game of recruiting there is no trading players. You are constantly building for the future while preparing to win big now. RB depth is amazing and looks good for the future. WR - we NEED tons of WR's for this offense and like Al_4_State said this group has really underperformed overall, we need more big play offense from them, not just rely on A-Rob all day long. I see no problem with the # of guys on our depth chart now. Quality big 12 depth is what is going to be the difference between 4-8 and 8-4 seasons, CPR knows this.

I think we will play a ton of WRs this year, so it would be really hard to have too much depth there.

And while I agree you can never have "too much" depth at any position... you can have too much depth that will not allow VERY talented guys to not see the field much... and therefore lead to them being unhappy. I think that could definately be the case for us at RB?

We play 3, 4, and sometimes 5 WR formations... so there is a lot of playing time to go around there. We are primarily a one-back offense at RB though, and we have 7 quality guys fighting for that spot. It seems right now that it goes ARob #1 and Woody #2... with Blankenship, White, SJ, and Hollis all fighting for #3.

A LOT of great things have been said by the coaches regarding SJ and Hollis, so the two odd men out right now seem to be Blank and White. Although I think they are both really talented, I would not be surprised at all to see one or both of them transfer. I hope not, but I wouldn't blame them either. Especially if we land Robert Standard. Then we really have quite the stable of backs. Really too many when you consider all the other positions on the team you need to have depth at as well.

That's for sure. We sure as heck don't even approach the quality depth at RB or WR of an OU, UT, or even A&M!
