Our seats had firmly attached blocks of ice as well. Standing kept the blood flowing but standing on the snowy concrete made for cold feet.
Very relaxed and fun-loving crowd. I enjoyed watching folks sledding down the hillsides and the guy on the video screen with the large ISU thermometer raising his fist as the temps dropped.
In the future people will be bragging they were at the coldest game in ISU history.
Well if that wasn't one of the most fun games I've ever been to! Feel bad for those who stayed home!
I was thinking the same thing, the crowd there was full of fun times and good spirits. Glad I came and had more good natured fun with some older (50-70 years old) than I could have hoped for, I'm 30. Sort of reminded my of the colorado game in with the tornado, people were just having a ton fun in an unique environment!
Hopefully, I can get to Morgantown next week!

Yeah that was a blast. Everyone was dancing and having fun... great atmosphere. I think the liquid warmth helped
I have to admit...I surprised myself. We started tailgating around 1:30 or so, didn't put my winter jacket on until we were getting ready to leave for the stadium. (Granted, I had on two long sleeved shirts, two short sleeved shirts, and my hooded sweatshirt). I took two breaks during the game in the bathroom, I admit, for a total of probably <20 minutes. Again...I did surprise myself.
Those kids on the southeast hillside were getting some serious sliding speed. Doesn't appear anyone got hurt.
The worst part of the day? Being cold, it causes you to "turtle" your neck into your shoulders. Both my neck and my shoulders hurt sooooo bad postgame. Still do slightly.
But ya know? It was worth it to see the smiles, handshakes, and gratitude of the players just before entering the locker room.

We stayed fairly warm...but we wore about five layers each, plus blankets & a sleeping bag (pic in another thread). My biggest problems were a) waddling to & from the car & stadium, and b) trying to remove layers in a small stall in order to "use the facilities". Men have no idea how convenient their plumbing is in cold weather!
The weather wasn't horrible if you dressed appropriately. I was there when the tailgate lots opened at 1 and went to the game. I wore 3 layers of socks, long sleeve shirts, and pants. My toes were getting cold in the 2nd half of the game, but other than that it wasn't too bad. It really helped that there wasn't much wind; the West Virginia game last year was worse in my opinion
Id say tailgating was great all day until the sun went down. I was there about 8am and with the walls on our tents and some propane heaters and ridiculous amounts of hot chocolate, we stayed warm all day.
The game was pretty bad though, Having ice on the ground under the seats made for frozen feet even with multiple sock layers. Stayed until the game was firmly no longer in doubt (or at least where i figured if we managed to blow a 20 point lead i didnt want to see it happen) and then headed for somewhere warmer.
Definitely solid attendance for the weather though. The crowd was slow arriving but id guess 25-30k which is pretty amazing for a 1-9 team with nothing really (other than the win against a similarly bad team) on the line.
The bathrooms were pretty funny though, people in there just to thaw out, and saw kansas band members in there with their instruments just trying to thaw them out.
For those of you that haven't lived through the lean years, these are the most fun. The reason is that the negative, and the ***** stay away. What you are left with are the ones that love their Cyclones unconditionally. They are there to show appreciation for the seniors that led us to 3 bowls and 20 wins. I was layered properly and felt very comfortable.
No wind and it had the eerie feeling of being on the dark side of the moon from exciting the car until 3.5 hours later getting back in. Ames had much more snow than DM and had a good 3 inches of snow/ice to walk through and stand on. The field looked unlike our usual green beauty but then Grant and Jeremiah and the boys started putting on the show of the year. Move that scrum another 5 yards! I go to them all but last night was the one to be at!
watching on tv it looked like the crowd was having fun. Reminded me of a Bike ride to Rippey. BRR!
Very proud of all you Cyclones who showed up for the last home game of the season. Impressive. Thank you.
The cold forced us to dance more to stay warm. My right knee had been hurting for a few weeks, but I think jumping up and down on it all night actually cured it!
I went prepared and was on the verge of sweating most the game. Was pretty loud for being half full but of course it was all the die hards there.
