Today's Weather

Use the formula to help with predicting showfall amount. If they call for 2 to 4 inches, figure on getting 8 to 12. If they call for 9 to 12 figure on an inch or so.

I know it is hard to predict weather, but it is crazy they cannot do better than this. They always hide behind that. The problem is some people have to plan around or for storms and it makes it hard to do so whey they are always so far off.

Last storm predicts 5-8, parts of Des Moines only gets 4.5(Despite surrounding areas getting more), ERMAHGERD METEOROLOGISTS SUCK!

Don't get me wrong they aren't infallible, as this storm proves, but busts are going to occur in any prediction based industry.

3.2" officially for Des Moines so far. 2.8" in Johnston.

Winterset 3.5, Waukee 3.0, Adel & Huxley 4.0, Indianola 4.1, Clive 3, Ottumwa 5.0, Humeston 6.0

Forecast whiffed for Ames. Backing off some Monday turned out to be the wrong thing to do.

There is no reason to change plans about going to the game at this point.

The chances of Ames getting impactful snow of >4" in less than 12 or 18 hours are not high right now.

Going 2-3" in Des Moines, pretty slushy snow.

Temps should be right around 32, maybe just above. Snowfall at 32 in daylight just doesn't accumulate, especially with late Feb Sun.

May be tough to even get 2" accumulated actually at one time, since there will probably be a lot of melting going on.

Unless there is a change in track at this point, Des Moines is not going to see 4"+, IMO.

00z models all in now and continue to agree with what I said at ten.

Low Snow totals in Des Moines on Tuesday and basically nothing in Ames for Tuesday.

Strong, dry north wind may also end up shutting Des Moines out as well.

Barring a major shift in low track... there won't be much to talk about with this one nw of Pella.

Des Moines actually received 6.1"

Timing was bad, but those that think the amounts were off badly last week are in a different reality.

But the timing miss was crucial in terms of planning.

Last night we were in 1-2 range for today, Have at least 4 inches and still coming down hard. Wish I could get mad about this instead of refs and the Johnson.

Got a call that Ankeny schools are letting out 2 hours early. Uhhhh, why exactly? It's not even snowing.

Dry slot is really digging in. We have a little over 4 inches in Norwalk but I haven't had a flake fall since 10:30 or so.

Is it just me or does it seem like when there's one of these it always pops up over the des moines area?
