TJ got an extension and a raise

I'm not going to argue with you. I've spent my life in sales and in PR. Timing is interesting.
You could ultimately prove correct, but it could simply mean that ISU knows that AJ Green's announcement isn't coming today so they've got room to space them out. I can imagine wanting to do this announcement first as to avoid any conjecture that TJ's raise was contingent upon landing a recruit.

Not surprising at all

I would have preferred waiting another year but I don’t make the decisions.

I think we’re still getting a steal at 1.2m with Otz.
Raise well deserved. And he will likely continue to get annual raises, beyond his current contract, if he does well.

Note the "if he does well" part. He is still undervalued. His value will increase greatly if he puts several good years back to back.

Anyone that would think that is truly an idiot.

That statement seems ridiculous but I agree with it. 1.2 million is a LOT of money in my book but in the world of D1 MBB I think you are right.
At least in the Big 12, it's a steal. On my brief look today, I think Jerome Tang will be the next lowest paid coach in the conference next season at $2.1 million. I believe everyone else is around or above $3 million.

I don't really care what AJ is doing. Did you read my post previously where I state that we'll be playing good basketball regardless? Find something better to do with your time.
So you didn’t state this announcement was possibly to take the butthurt away from Green not joining the team?

I'm not the sky is falling kind of person like a lot on here, however, I can see this as a PR move by the AD to soften bad news and confirms TJ is moving in the right direction, regardless of the AJ announcement. Jamie is a master at that. I'm probably wrong here and hope so. Either way, we'll live another day to play good basketball regardless and I'm not worried about it.

The timing is interesting though. Its going to be a really great day or its going to be a great day. Either in life isn't too bad.

I'm not convinced that the two situations are on some sort of equal ground.

I did the math and 500k is essentially a cost of living raise for TJ.

A long time ago my dad was on a school board, and during contract negotiations he got it approved that the raises were lump salary and not a %. It really helped the younger teachers out but the old ones weren't so happy. It only happened once then the the union got the loop hole closed.
The total dollars were the same just the distribution was different.
