They did go to a zone late. I would like us to get away from switching our bigs onto opposing teams guards all the time. Osun and Jones against Harmon for countless possessions in a row was just setting us up to fail

On the pick and roll with Rob in OT, he threw that thing off the backboard like he was in a halftime show and expecting someone to jump off a trampoline behind him and dunk it.
You just don't know in this league. Kansas is on a three game conference losing streak, and has to play KState tonight.
They'll be desperate on Saturday if they lose again tonight, and as we saw with a desperate Tech team yesterday, that could spell trouble.
If teams are going to sag off Lisepy to the extent they are then I see one of three solutions - only two of which will work this season:
(1) Lispsey needs to start hitting open threes at a high enough rate to force teams to guard him. This is probably not happening this season.
(2) Lipsey needs to get down hill, generate contact, and get to the line. This seems a bit more doable and aligns with Lipsey's style of play. It frustrates me that we didn't see more of this last night, as it seems like the obvious move. Lispey just needs to get more aggressive, and hopefully will be when he is not in foul trouble.
(3) One of Holms/ Grill/ Kalscheur need to switch to primary PG with Lispey playing off ball during these stretches.
Were also going to need to figure out how to break the press more effectively. I don't really have an easy solution for this, but based on the last two games, we will be getting pressed until we can break it without turning the ball over every other possession. Fortunately, we have a long week off to scheme some things up before Saturday's game with KU.

They won't lose tonight. This is time of year they really start playing well and that Kentucky game will give them a ton of confidence going into what will be the biggest week of the year.
They'll beat us in Ames 80-71.
I posted about this in another thread. ISU just doesn't pressure the defense much, and doesn't shoot many FTs. When they do shoot them, they don't shoot them well (worst FT% last year in conference games, and worst FT% in conference games so far this year). Last night, if ISU could have just shot FTs at 60% , they win the game.
In 4 of the road conference road games so far, ISU's opponent has had a +10 or more advantage in FTAs, and in three games the advantage was closer to 20 (TCU +19, OSU +16, TT +16). Thankfully, TCU shot terribly from the FT line, or that would have been a loss for ISU. The staff needs to do something to correct this. The Big 12 is not a place for passive offensive.
On the defense side, constantly switching and helping on defense creates favorable offensive mismatches and open shooters when teams have similar athletic ability, and ISU often ends up fouling when the opponent exploits those mismatches.
It also sucks that we get an 11AM Saturday home game... In fact, we have two left... That's some horrible scheduling for us.
Does it surprise you though? Season is halfway over and this will be our first home game with students back on a weekend. I'm sure that wasn't intentional by the Big 12.
Lipsey has to get into the paint when the defense is guarding like that. He seems to float around the 3 point line in those situations.
1) FTs are how teams with leads put the game away. The way ISU plays offense is not conducive to getting FTAs.
2) FTs are one means that teams who need to make a comeback use to get back in the game...easy points and extends the game. The way ISU plays defense is conducive to giving up FTAs.
Not a good combo...
Holmes too even with no sagging. Problem is against a bigger guard they may not be able to draw enough contact.
Combine that with being a bad FT shooting team when they DO get them. Yikes.
TJ has been a great coach but his end of game play calling has more to be desired. I mean, was it really the play from grill to shoot a contested 3 with 20 seconds left?
Higher end talent and depth should help to balance out the 'find a bucket' offense issues.
The third aspect that is troubling is how poorly we shoot free throws when we get them. Rob actually made both of his, Lipsey was 75%, everyone else 50% or lower. It is costing us games
