Time For Lanning

Might not be the best practice player. But at this point, what have you got to lose? More games? Newsflash: Iowa State is 6-21 over the past 2+ years. It can't get much worse!

We actually looked good against a D1 team for the first time in awhile. Hate to see that missed FG but would we be having this discussion if we had won?
I'm split with the qb situation. It wouldn't upset me if Sam started 1 more week, and I wouldn't be disturbed if they went with Lanning right now. But if they make the switch, they can't go back to Sam.
Even if the pass hit the receiver in the numbers, he was going to get crushed. The pass didn't make it any worse.

For the last time, Richardson is not the problem. Putting in Lanning is not going to do anything to help win games.
What will? He may not be THE problem......but he certainly isn't THE answer. It shouldn't take the OL, WR's and rb's of the Green Bay Packers to make him serviceable. The guy is a fifth year senior and if you just starting watching.....some of his decisions would make one ask if he is just a freshman.
This team's problems run so much deeper than who's under center. Changing QBs now is basically arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. But, if Rhoads is in full job saving mode now then he may as well put Lanning out there and see if the kid can provide a spark. And it kills me to agree with BodeClone, but yeah, once they go to Lanning then they have to stick with him. Whatever they do it can't be a revolving door at the position all season long. With a bye coming up and a winnable home game next on the schedule, this certainly looks like the perfect time to make the change if it's going to happen at all.
The one thing I would like with Lanning out there is it would give us a power back that can run down hill.
I like SR, he does a lot of things right, but when it is 4th and goal in OT I want a guy that will throw the ball up for grabs instead of stumbling around waiting to get sacked. I want someone that is more concerned about winning than making a bad play.
I think you're crazy if you're thinking Sam is more concerned about making a bad play more than he is about winning... All of these kids want to win. He did a hell of a job keeping that last play alive. Our left side of the line got absolutely blew up on the last play and it caused Sam to scramble sooner than our WR's had time to make the breaks on their routes.
Probably not but that's not the point. He deserves a chance to suck just like everyone else on the team. At least it will be an interesting week leading up to the next game with a QB change coming. I don't know why so many embrace the staleness of this program.
Interesting reason why you'd put lanning in there... to have a chance to suck. How about we put him in certain spots (similar to what they did last night) that give him the easiest chance of succeeding, gaining confidence and experience while not compromising too much from a team standpoint. We saw a little of this last night. We'll likely see more of Lanning against KU. I doubt the coaches will play him vs the likes of OU, TCU, and Baylor, but we may see him get some sporadic work throughout the rest of the season.
