Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

She said CC breaking the scoring record isn't legit because it's taking her 5 years to do what Plum did in 4 years. Which is completely false, CC is in her 4th year and will likely break Plum's record in fewer games. She also said CC used her COVID year last season, also false. And she brought up Mulkey's line about CC needing to shoot 40 times a game, which has never once happened, CC actually averages fewer shots per game than SS did in college.
Don't forget that Caitlin should be dominating because she is 25. (She's 22.)

Yeah that's definitely uninformed and even a casual fan like myself knew she was doing all this in 4 years...but it's something to consider about her choice to come back. There's a hypothetical future where she'd have every record as a 5 year player vs 4 year players of the future.

It's a fan discussion rather than anything legitimately offensive and you're right all fans would be annoyed or pissed.

We need to bring some gatekeepers back, everybody with a mic is now "the news".

Apparently she also claimed Clark was a 25-year-old dominating 20-year-old kids on the court, when the fact Clark just turned 22 a week or two ago is easily verifiable online.

This whole Swoopes affair is the poster child of why you need to get the facts yourself and form your own opinions rather than believing and regurgitating everything you hear or read on line.

There is way too much unchecked misinformation in our digital world.

Of course this post might be all bunk...

I do think this is a valid point with a lot of players and records...just not with CC.

Monte had so many Big 12 records or was top 5 in lots of Big 12 stats and I'm sure 5 year players are going to pass him. Jordan Bohannon has like the 2nd most minutes in NCAA history or something ridiculous, he was toward the top before even getting year 6 because he'd already played more than 4 seasons.

Luckily Monte's A/TO ratio records are not affected by longevity.

That’s why I think more records ought to be shown in a per-season/per-game context. Some records are just about longevity, but breaking them down a bit like that is a better comparison between players.

she was corrected in the pod cast that cc was in her 4th year and not her 5th year

Why the need to have Hawk fans agree? It's triabalism. It happens in sports. We know she's a great player with drama queen tendencies. Them disagreeing doesn't change anything.
.....tendencies.....u are being kind. Faking injuries, get carried off the court when nothing happened, etc. is more than a "tendency." Good for you to take the high road.

and when you do the math, he played in 83 total games (27 games per season). Clark has already played in 100 games through her first three seasons (17 more games). Pete had 3669 points in three seasons, Clark had 2717 points in three seasons.
Since basketball is such a young sport, especially back then, seems impossible for someone to be that far ahead of the game again.

Womens basketball now is probably about as old and developed as men’s was then, wasn’t even an official ncaa sport until early 80s.

I saw the Pistol play, live, in an NBA game. I was seated on the baseline first row just to the side of the basket. Game was in Omaha when KC had a franchise and played a few games in Omaha. Pete was with Atlanta, I think. Most amazing player, all time. Kinda gangly skinny but the ball was like part of his body. First 3 quarters he showed a little but they were saving him for the fourth where he just took over the game and it seemed like he was in slow motion and gliding. Kinda reminded me of a skinny Larry Bird but way better shooter. There have been some since that can score at will, KD for example, but no one will ever have control of the ball like him. Tiny Archibald was the PG for KC and he was special too.
