If Jantz is getting every chance to win the competition, it's probably for a reason.

If the only thing holding him back is some study time with the playbook, then he might just be the best man for the job.

Barnett may have a lot of talent and the most potential, but that does NOT mean that he is necessarily ready to take over the offense. Even if he has all the physical tools he may be farther behind in the physical and mental maturity that can only be gained over time.

Throwing Barnett to the wolves this year could be disastrous. He would "gain experience" quickly, but we also might lose almost every game. The result could very well be that Barnett would lose all confidence in his ability and actually regress. Look at 2003 when we threw Flynn under the bus behind a porous line. He had to run for his life all year and never got an opportunity to develop as a QB.
At ISU we don't have the luxury of having enough talent around a really young QB to make up for growing pains.
