Ticket Scalpers

Agree with what some others have said. I'd rather pay a little more and buy from another fan who has tickets to offload than let these guys make a buck.

I think the frustrating thing from a lot of people's perspective is seeing these guys (who have zero ties to the schools/games) with a fist full of tickets and refusing to sell them unless they are making an insane profit. As a fan, I would have LOVED to go into the game but cant afford to spend $200-$300 a ticket. So it can certainly make you mad when they would rather toss the ticket in the trash than negotiate a fair price.

Every ISU fan I saw selling tickets were trying to get $200-$300 also. Friday was a brutal market for buyers with ku having the first game and ISU/ku being in the same session. It was frustrating.

This past weekend was the perfect sellers market with KU and ISU in the finals. If OU and Baylor end up in the finals, tickets don't sell for face. It seems like the big 12 has to figure a better way to distribute tickets tickets to reduce scalping at the big12 tourney. It would be interesting to see how many tickets schools other than ISU, KU and KSU sold to their alumni. At most the other schools seemed to have less than 100 fans at their games. I imagine their fans are making some money by selling to scalpers.

There are also quite a few Cyclone fans who order more tickets than they need and pay for their trip to KC by selling.

It would seem the big12 could alleviate alot of scalping. It seems to me they could stop alot of scalping by getting away from preprinted tickets. How many people would pay $100 for a piece of computer paper with a barcode on it from a total stranger.

Big 12 makes it as hard as anyone to reduce scalping. They don't allow tickets to be able to be instant delivered via stubhub and you can only order 4 tickets per credit card from the sprint center. Aslo those tickets had to be picked up in person early in the week. Not many events have things as strict as that.

I wish scalping was illegal, they're just scumbag losers like the people at the casino who yell at blackjack dealers

I don't mind scalping for sporting events where people sell some games to afford season tickets, where otherwise all seats would just be bought by companies and others with the deepest pockets.

What I don't like is when tickets are made affordable for a concert and sell out in 10 minutes and scalpers buy many tickets and jack up the price. In this case they are middlemen who provide no service at all.

Went through a ticket broker I've used in passed for other venues in Midwest, mid court 7th row about one third less than most scalpers were asking. He knows market with some negotiated left in price. I'll work with them for Omaha or L-ville Regional NCAA sites tickets also

They were out there all day everyday

Ha. So were Iowa St. fans. Some were in the bar all day. Are they unemployed alcoholics?

I'm not saying you're wrong, they may be unemployed, but you can't just blindly stereotype people like that.

Maybe I'm wrong. I saw the same guys on street corners wednesday - saturday holding up a sign saying I need tickets.

The sign could be part of their job if they're doing this for a living.

So far, you're continually building your case off a stereotype. These guys probably aren't unemployed in general if they have the money to buy a supply of tickets. They're not taking advantage of a charity here.

Everyone needs to keep this thread in mind next fall when Iowa State "fans" buy single game tickets then turn around and list them on here for triple the price the same day.

The bottom line is that there were no less than 50-60 tickets for sale on this website in the week leading up to the tournament. Most of the time people were asking for $300-$400 per all-session ticket for Uppers and $500-$600 for lower all-session tickets. People elected or were given bad advice and decided to scoff at those prices. Well sometimes when you play with fire people get burned.

Perhaps this year will be a lesson to those that say you can always pick up tickets for face value a few minutes before tip. It is more entertaining to hear people complain about ticket prices but then pay $23 for a pitcher of beer.

I tried to buy two tickets off a scalper close to halftime for $200 each and he just walked away...

That's incredible. Usually by game time the prices drop, but holding out for more than $200 at half is just stupid.

As others have said the Sprint Center has had some procedures in place to reduce the amount of scalpers. Most of them get their tickets for later in the week off fans right after they lose. Fans are leaving, not coming back and its an easy process selling to a scalper with cash on hand. Also, its not like scalping comes without risk. ISU and KU were close to losing in this tournament. If they are out before the semi-finals there is no way they make their money back let alone make a profit.

Also, as Iowa State fans we have had some of the cheapest tickets for football (and basketball) among power conference teams for quite some time. With success, comes a rise in ticket prices even if it is in Kansas City.
