THT Going into the Draft

At this point the team seems a little cancerous. I don't know which relationships are salty, just a feeling I get from reading a lot of articles and body language. I didn't expect Talen back, figured Lard would be gone, and put Lindell at 50/50 leave stay.

Part of me is happy, because there are some people on the bench I think could be decent players, who may not stay if all three of those players are back. Also, it seems like some players are on Prohm's level of expectations and others aren't, and at some point regardless of talent they have to go. I'd be happy to have Talen and Lindell back, but I think it's very unlikely.

As far Talen's decision he should go if someone is saying first round. He would be stupid not to.

Yeah one and dones are fine for various reasons but I'd feel better if ISU had more kids that you knew didn't have one foot out the door before they even started. And I can't blame them...it's definitely a systemic thing, but I can't see how it helps.

It does hinder ISU's development on the court when they lose a guy that quickly because it isn't as easy to replace that kind of talent at ISU as opposed to Duke or UNC etc.

SIAP, but there are no one-and-dones in the Final 4. Actually, there are only two freshman starters in the Final 4. I don't think either was in the 247 composite Top 100 either.

Heard this today although Tech isn't exactly a bunch that has played a lot together.

But having players that fit what a coach wants to do and a coach knowing what they want to do may go a long ways.

Instead of being happy for THT that one of our players is going pro, we have such ahole posts like this. Embarrassing.

My apologies. I didn't mean to sound like an ahole, but I can see now that my post certainly sounded that way.

I genuinely don't see how THT will be a first-round pick in the next NBA draft. He's a tweener who's been great at times, but has also shown lots of inconsistency. If he can get first-round guaranteed money, by all means he should get it while he can. However, I just don't see that happening this year. If I end up being wrong, I promise I'll come back here and eat crow in front of everyone.

Whatever happens, I will always wish THT the very best. He's a young man with great character and he's been a wonderful representative of Iowa State University.

NBA Draft scouts are OBSESSED with youth and potential. THT has both.

I agree with your post, but disagree with the whole NBA process. I never understood why they always draft off of potential rather proven success. But I know THT is showing 1st round mock. He'll definitely need to work on his shot and shot choice.

The NBA GM's, and more importantly, their scouts, are the best talent evaluators. Likely the best basketball players in the world, and certainly the best available in the States, play in the NBA. So whether they choose them as young prospects with potential, or developed and experienced college graduates, the best available are on NBA rosters. GM's have determined the best way to try to get the next star is through drafting young prospects with more potential.

It changes the dynamics of the draft itself, but it's not like better basketball players, that could make an NBA team better, are being left out of the NBA because there's a younger guy taking his spot.

Because drafting on potential sometimes gets you guys like Giannis (obviously different kind of player, but was by no means a sure thing and was someone who was drafted on potential)

If 2nd round, will he be back at ISU.

The bottom table formats it as per 40 minutes.

The teams in the Final Four are generally old teams.

The average team in the Final Four had freshmen play 20 minutes per game in their respective conferences. That might be even fewer in the NCAA tournament.

Conference rotations are 7-8 men. Tournament rotations can be as short as six men.

Also you can develop much quicker in the NBA than college. Better training and don't need to focus on classes.

Little late to the party on this, but people bagging on Clayton custer is funny. Dude left here, won MVC player of the year and lead his team to a final four where he dropped 15 points. All ISU players in the history of the university have a combined 31 points in a final four game.

No idea. Probably. He is a lottery pick IMO. Even this year.
I don't think he'll be a lottery pick, but I do think someone takes him between 20-30, which honestly is awesome for him. Gets in a good organization where they should be able to be patient and develop him rather than rush him.
